I have a Fender Cyber Twin (1st edition, dont have serial number to hand) which I purchased 2nd hand from Ebay. Lately it has had a fault which started off as quite intermittent but has got worse. When playing (on any preset, at any volume) after 2-5 minutes it glitches out, emitting a crackling noise (electronic crackle) and the digital display goes haywire, changing the presets, altering the volume, effects etc and then the sound cuts out. Changing the preset or even altering the effect using the rotary knob fixes it instantly, but then after a few seconds it starts again. Its incredibly frustrating as it limits me to 2 minute bursts of playing and is effectively stopping me from using it for playing live or recording. I have opened it up and inspected the PCBs but I have little-to-no electronics knowledge so I didnt know what I was looking for or should see. Was hoping it would be something simple and obvious. I have a feeling that its something to do with the PCB/module but have no idea where to go next as I cant really afford to have it fixed professionally. I'm so frustrated I just want to sell it and pick up a simple valve amp.. but I cant even sell it in its current state. Can anyone give me any pointers? Thanks, Dan.

I have found that the ribbon cable on the right side of the cyber board, where it connects to the main board has a propencity to loose connectivity re-punch the wires into the connector

Check for degradation of C144 a 2200mfd/16volt cap.

This is power source for the 5 volt digital hardware. Check for excess ripple with a scope. The voltage should NOT go below 8 volts. If the voltage dips, the DSP will go nut-case.

Serial number N554137

You haven't asked a question. If you're looking for the year on a Fender Starcaster, you're missing a letter or two from the front of the serial number. I suspect you're looking for info about a different guitar than a Starcaster.

I have the fender accessories footswitch and the cyber twin. The pedal has stopped working and I have replaced the cable but still does not work. Is it the pedal or the amp? The amp buttons still work...

Verify the footswitch with an ohmmeter. You should find that each of four pins should have continuity to pin 2 of the connector when the switch associated with the pin is pressed.

Note the pin numbers on the connector seem to have a weird layout. Here is a link to your amp schematic. The Footswitch interface is shown on page 3 of 12.

http://elektrotanya.com/fender_cyber-twin_sch.pdf/download.html

Use the ohmmeter to check each wire in the cable is good. SOme cables, unless the official one for the unit, may lack some wires.

The amp "reads" the footswitch state into a register which is then read serially. The inouts are pretty well protected from user mistakes. With the schematic you should be able to analyze the failure.
