All I get is a squished picture in the middle 40-50 percent of the screen. The top and bottom parts are black. Also, in using my remote's up/down buttons, all I get are channels 2 to 13. If I press channel 25, it will show up. However, when I use the up/down buttons to go down, it falls to 13, 12, etc.

could be a deflection problem or if picture is somewhat small top or bottom or both only a vertical problem--if very old set parts may no longer be available.

If you have tried using different input devices, looked for loose contacts
in power outlet, RC Jack, cable and connectors, the TV might need service.

If you are watching television and you see black lines on the left and right sides of the screen, check to see if you are watching an HD broadcast or a standard definition broadcast. You can do this by bringing up the TV guide menu on your remote. If the show is in HD, it should take up the full screen. However, if it is not HD, bars will be present on the left and right of the screen. That is because standard definition programing is in 4x3, which will not take up the entire screen.

If the picture you are watching not only has black bars on the sides, but on the tops and bottoms of the screen as well, your "Zoom" mode has somehow gotten off-kilter. Press the "Zoom" button on the remote until the image appears correct. If this does not work, power down the television, wait a few moments, and power the TV back on. The image should be correct now.

If the image on the screen looks stretched or squished, this is because your HD cable receiver is not set up properly for your widescreen television. Press the "Menu" button on the receiver

The vertical scan amplifiers are loosing gain. This is usually caused by aging capacitors, and sometimes other types of components.

Because of the age of the set, it is possible that after servicing the fault the chance of having other component failures is high.

go into your customers setting and change you aspect setting to either full or auto

Did you mean the picture is collapsed only in the middle horizontally(white line appears on the middle part of the screen)?
If that is the case, maybe vertical IC failed or loose connection.

CHECK C2C52 10 UFD @ 50 V OFF THE BASE OF Q2C51 ON THE SIGNAL PCB. 2. CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.

You have CC (closed captioning) turned on and it is set to text mode.....Go to the menu on the remote use the right arrow and hilight "C.CAPT",use the down arrow to highlight "C.CAPT",use the right arrow and highlight "off" then exit button on remote.
