My computer shuts down after being on for a few hours. there is no warning and after it shuts down it will not come back on for several hours. the green light turns to flashing yellow upon shutting down

You need to get the codes read. My guess would be some sensor is sending an overheating code to the computer which in turn is protecting the engine by shutting it down. If you don't have a reader, most auto parts shops will do a free read for you.
When you turn the key on, do the warning lights come on the dash ? Can you turn the headlights on ? These answers will help narrow down the problem to the main circuits or just the key switch.
If the computer is overheating it will shut down to save the hardware from heat damage, the temp is pre set. It may get hot, due to air flow in a minute or and hour. What does the "screen comes up says problem " say? Check the fan and vents for dust and clean, improve air flow around bottom vents and side vents. Perhaps a Laptop Cooler? When the computer shuts down unepectedly, the computer see it as a crash and will load in that option screen. Run a 'Check Disk" on the OS drive buy opening computer in start menu, right click the drive with the OS (C), open properties, Tools, Check now, choose all options, follow instructions, reboot.
It shuts down to protect itself from overheating, looks like you tried to use it too much without sorting the problem out.
You can try and give it a good clean out. Google cleaning computers.
I usually use a small brush, my vaccum cleaner and sometimes an air duster
I have a Garmin Street Pilot c330 which when plugged in and power button pushed, the screen lights up for a few seconds and shuts down. It was giving a low battery warning before shutting down. Where is teh battery in teh unity? and should I replace the fuse?
remove the side panel and have a look if your cpu fan is turning.... you may need to blow the dust and dirt out of it as well... if the tower even feels remotely warm that's likely the issue... also check the fan on the power supply. either way it will likely need to be cleaned
