Rheem 50 Gallon FVR NATGAS Water Heater 6YR 22V50F1 Logo

My water heater pilot wont light anymore. Originally I had a problem where the pilot would ocasionally go out. I would simply light the pilot again and it would stay lit for a few weeks. Now I cannot get the pilot to light at all. It doesnt matter how long the button is pressed down to light the pilot, i cannot even get a small amount of gas to come out of the pilot hole anymore. Before this happened the pilot would sometimes light for 1-2 seconds before going out but nothing anymore. I can light the water heater manually by heating the spot where the pilot would be and then turning on the gas but the pilot will not light at all. Manual lighting is getting old and my wife is getting angry with me. Please help.

I actually was able to fix it. Somehow the gas supply to the pilot light was clogged. I was able to blow it out with compressed gas. Hope this helps anyone who has this problem.

Sounds like it is your thermal coupler. Check for a replacement part at your local hardware store. Good Luck.

The pilot light on our tankless water heater will not stay on.

The pilot light has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. It seems that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced if pilot light keeps going out
