I just hooked up a used L7580 Printer.I just replaced the black ink cartridge because it was empty. I am finding that with many of the documents I print, some of the letters or numbers are not printing. It seems to be a sporatic problem. Some documents print fine.

For Canon, if either color or black cartridge is empty or out of ink, "Scanner" doesn't work.
That's why your scanner is not properly working.
It's all connected... That's Canon.
Are you refill your cartridge by yourself?
Try "ROADINK" inkjet refill kit. No drill or sharp needles are needed.
It's not only easy to refill, you can have quality printing.
Check out my youtube video, will find how easy refill can be done.
Try doing running it through it's aligment process.
It is also possible that the contacts where the ink cartridges mate up with the printer are corroded. Try using an eraser to clean the corrosion off the mating surface in the printer.
when you print black document the printer should only withdraw black ink,or you have go back to computer to tellthem print black and white, How? when you click print the screen will show out printer setting box ,you can find the option over there.
When one or more ink cartridges are empty, for example, Black, the LCD
shows “Ink Empty Black” and “Open Cover.” Close the printer’s document
support and the document tray.
Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely into place.
Pull the ink cartridge hook toward the front of the printer and remove
the color ink cartridge displayed on the LCD. Place the cartridge in a
plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
Open the new ink cartridge bag for the color shown on the LCD and
remove the new ink cartridge. The cartridge cover may come off when you
open the bag. This is not uncommon and will not damage the cartridge.
Each color has its own correct position that is clearly labeled and
color coded inside the printer. Keep the ink cartridge in an upright
position when you insert it into slot. It will only fit in the correct
direction. Press down on the ink cartridge until the hook snaps over
it.
If you replaced an ink cartridge while “Near Empty” was displayed on
the LCD, the LCD may ask you to verify that the replacement cartridge
was brand new one. Example: “Did You Change Black? 1.Yes 2.No.” For
each new cartridge you installed, press 1 on the dial pad to
automatically reset the ink dot counter for that color. If the ink
cartridge you installed is not a brand-new one, select 2.
Hi, its sad to say but the printer sounds that needed to be send to the nearest service center in your area. You already reseat & replace the ink cartridge and issue still present. Please call your printer manufacturer so that they can give you more options aside from sending it to service center. Thank you so much,
as u have ran out of ink you cant print anymore... you have to replace a new ink cartridge.... this is because when u print something, the colors will get mixed to print the exact color.... even if u are printing only in black, some other colors wil get mixed to produce the black color on the paper... so u need to change the ink cartridge.... u cannot run with a blank filled ink cartridge.... and the selection of your printer is very good...
