Unfortunately, you don't have any quick and easy options, the security wouldn't be much use if it were otherwise. Garmin Lock has been activated and can only be disabled by either entering the correct PIN or by turning the unit on at its "security location". This will be the place where the PIN was originally set. Garmin will not assist you as you are not the original purchaser.
Your only fix is to contact your grandparents to ask if they remember where they set up the PIN number. As the unit strongly advises that the security location is not the owner's home address this may not be straightforward. If they can remember, then post the unit back to them so that they can take it to the security location and disable Garmin Lock. If this is not possible, then your grandparents should contact Garmin who will assist them if they have proof of purchase or have previously registered the unit with Garmin.
the only way to unlock a gps is to return to the security location (where you put the pin in for the first time) or return the unit to garmin to get it reset.
Your safe location is where you entered the PIN number (probably your driveway). If it still won't unlock, send it to Garmin with your original receipt from an authorized Garmin dealer and they will reset it for you. There is no master unlock for the Garmin units, it must be reset by Garmin.
Take it back to the 'secure location' as indicated in your service manual. It will automatically unlock when it gets a full satellite signal. You have to enter the PIN number twice when setting up the unit. You should always use a number which is familiar to you so you can remember it. If you can't remember it, and if your secure location doesn't unlock the unit, you will need to send the unit to Garmin to unlock it. You will need your receipt for Garmin to unlock the unit.
Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."
So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.
Is it asking for PIN? If so, this is your security number you entered when you got the GPS. If you can't remember it, take the GPS back to the 'security location' you entered. It will automatically unlock and you can reset the PIN.
The only way to unlock a PIN locked unit is to enter the correct PIN number, or take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered. Other than that, your only other option is to send the unit back to Garmin.
