The filter light came on telling us to replace filter. The filter is a large sponge type filter. How do I clean it? I used a soft brush on it to brush debris off and then replaced it. I pushed the reset filter button but it did not reset. This is a new unit (new home) and I do not have a manual for this vacuum. Can you please help???? Jackie

How to open to clean

Hello! The dirt cup, filter and brushes need to be cleaned to ensure continued cleaning effectiveness. Below are steps for cleaning your Hoover Slider.

Turn switch to OFF position.

1. Press button and slide latch towards outside of cleaner. Rotate dirt cup toward back of cleaner.

2. While holding dirt cup, grasp filter frame and lift out filter. Empty dirt cup after every use. Dirt cup can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Allow to dry thoroughly.

3. Pull middle section of filter out of filter frame. To remove debris from filter, tap it on a hard surface or brush it with a soft brush.

4. Remove lint, strings, etc. from the brush roll located on the underneath side of the nozzle.

5. Replace the brush roll when the brushes do not touch the edge of a card as it is moved across the opening on the bottom of the nozzle.
Further disassembly of the cleaner is not recommended. Hope this helps!

How to clean

There are 2 Filters that should be washed every 3 months. they are labeled as filter A and Filter B. They only neet to be washed with water. if you use any type of soap or cleaner it will actually damage the filters and they will need to be replaced.
Another part of the vacuum that can be cleaned is the clear bin assembly. REMOVE it from the cyclone before cleaning it. DO NOT get the cyclone wet. it will damage the machine. but again just water and a rag on the bin assy will work great any type of cleaner will actually cause the bin to get foggy.
The only other part to be cleaned is the roller brush. what i would recommed is to take a box cutter, and to cut the length of the roller. all of the hair and fibers on there. then turn the roller brush 180 degrees and cut it again. then turn the vacuum on and vacuum with it for a minute and the debris from the roller brush should be gone.

Can I clean the air filters or have to replace them and if so how often? I would also like to know where I can purchase new filters if necessary. Thank you!

Hi Thank you for contacting FixYa. We love to fix things.

You havent mentioned what make of Vacuum you are using.

Assuming this is a Dyson then yes you can wash the filters, let them dry then re-use them. You can wash the sponge type filters using fairly liquid and running under the tap and squeezing out the dirt just like you would with a normal sponge.

The Hepa Filters can be cleaned using a power washer or by placing them in a pillow case and puting them in the washing machine on a low heat low cycle. Ideally you should not need to replace the Hepa filters but i would recommend you do so after 1 year.

Filters have been clogged with wet cat litter and now the vac will turn on but shuts off and wont cont to vaccume. can we clean/rinse the filter out. filter light has come on and then turns off once the...

Using a vacuum cleaner for wet cat litter??? Not a good idea at the best of times! The machine's cutting out because it's overheating. You don't tell us the make or model of your machine - some filters are washable, many are not. Your user manual should tell you. As a general rule, cloth- or sponge-type filters are probably washable, paper ones are not. If you do wash the filter, give it at least 24 hours in a warm place to dry thoroughly before re-using.

Is their maintenance I need to do on my H702 central Vacumn?

H702 appears to be a Honeywell heavier duty for mid to large floor areas.I have not seen them but internally most Central vacs are VERY similar.
Most central vacs have an exposed filter which should be inspected periodically for damage or cleaning and replacement. A hanging cloth filter is normally fine for 7- 10 years with periodic inspection by the homeowner. Look for tears, never pick up wet stuff. very simple. You can clean a cloth filter prior to inspecting with the round brush from another vac or a soft paint brush.

I found internet reference to an H702 bag but it may be an option for your vac.
Some cv's have an additional or optional paper bag for allergy sufferers or removable cartridge filter which would be visible when removing the dust pail. regardless, the filter protects the motor from damage, periodically inspect when emptying. If dust gets through a damged filter it can leak into and blow a motor. As an cv ages a small degree of fine dust gets in no matter the brand, but most are fine for 10-12 years with no service.

If you see dust in the air exhausting or puffing from the vac, have the unit checked as this indicates dust which has run completely through the motor. If you see a small amount of black dust exhausting along your wall, it is normal from internal brush wear. Turn the vac on and off and listen to the motor as it winds down. If it growls or sounds scratchy or is squealing, that is an indication it needs to be serviced. Clean and inspect you pwer head every 4-6 months and change a smooth drive belt twice a year, broken or not as it will be stretched.

Bissell turbo revolution

you can wash that sponge filter by hand but you must let it dry compleatly before putting it back in the machine, I found a filter pack for the lift off vacume at walmart, make sure teh bottom filter is clean as well. the lift off vacume has 3 filters there is one filter in the tray under the dirt cup, one in the top cup, and the hepa filter in the back the 2 foam filters must be clean or you can have reduced suction, the lift off vacume I have I found thrown away because they never cleaned it outthe brush was dirty and full of strings the belt was worn, the hose under the vacume was full and stopped up the hose in the back was compleatly stopped up all filters were compleatly clogged, and the hepa filter was missing entirely. Not to insult you or anyone but i've found that a lot of people are jsut to lazy to clean their vacume out it fills up with dirt they throw it away and get a new one, i've gottten many like new vacumes for this reason, this bissell is working like brand new now. and I just replaced the belt and all filters in it saving me approx. 150.00 for a new one

HEPA Filter

My vacuum came with a sponge over the filter and the directions said I could wash the filter. Do the directions mean to wash the black sponge or the actual filter? Is the sponge part of the filter or is it trash?

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. Or, you can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to contact the manufacturer’s website and or phone #. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

We have a Kenmore Stylite Retrax vacuum cleaner, brand new. Suction is not working properly.

I actually pulled back my old vac after using this thing. Having said that I have played around with it and one quick cure is the remove or clean the little circle sponge filter at bottom. If you remove the canister and look at the bottom of vac you will see where the air travels down through a small circle. In there is a sponge filter that is probably clogged. Now Being frustrated, I just removed it and the vac sucks like crazy now. There are just way to many filters to worry about. As mentioned you need to clean the top main filiter, then the top sponge filter, and then dont froget there is alson one in the front of the machine (square paper filter) that catches dust leaving vac. These are on top of the little circle one that I removed, so I dont think it will be missed. Try and see what you think.
