I have a 42" Proscan

It sounds more like a backlight problem to me. The first thing I would try before tearing the set apart is simply unplugging it for about five minutes and plug it back in. TV's do weird things sometimes and need to be reset. Odds are, if you have to open up the TV, there's not a whole lot you can do anyway. Check the backlight on signal and also see if your inverter is working. I would suspect that if you're strobing your backlight is probably dying. In that case all you can do is replace the panel; you could try finding a replacement backlight and installing it, but I wouldn't advise even trying this. Replacing backlights is quite a task if you're not familiar with televisions. Anyway, best of luck.

My proscan tv went into wide screen....everything shows up bigger. how do I get it back to normal? By wide screen, I mean if there are 2 people sitting at a table talking on screen at opposite sides of...

It sounds like you accidentally enabled a zoom feature or something similar.

Most remote controls should have a clearly labeled "zoom" button or a "picture size" option. If not, go into your TV's menu and look for something zoom related.

If this doesn't work, just go ahead and toy around in your TV's menu. I strongly suggest writing down the default settings so you can go back to them if you screw something up.

Good luck!
