My air conditioner delivers cold air only in spurts. It then goes into fan mode for a few minutes, then to cold air in a few more minutes. It is over 100 degrees outside and the inside of the house is 85 or so. I have the temperature set at 74 degrees. Why does the cold air not pump out consistantly?

Hi,
The unit is probably low on freon and so it is running too cold....this trips the freeze stat and shuts down the compressor till it warms up
The unit will need to be recharged or replaced...

Here is a tip that I wrote about how to add refrigerant to a air conditioner or cooling system

Auto/On set to ON. Fan runs.

Sounds like the thermostat, the way to verify is to unplug indoor unit, remove thermostat, take pic of wiring with phone or label the wires as to the terminals. Carefully twist the yellow,(Y) Red (R) and the green (G) together. Plug the furnace back in, if the unit operates normally, replace the thermostat. I am basing this on the fact that the blower speed is changing. This could also be an anomaly within the circuit board in the furnace section, not likely though as the outside unit (condenser) is not controlled n by the indoor board unless this is a heat pump. hope this helps. Why did SPT Portable Air Conditioner stopped blowing cold air?

Unit needs to be taken apart and washed out , also check to see if motor turns freely by hand , clean base of unit fans / blowers and drain ports / channels . Check outdoor motor to see if bearings are tight or fan overheats and cuts off if so replace outdoor motor .

Is there a reset button on a FASCO D9709 AC unit?

Hello, the fan in the interior unit takes a few minutes to start in heating mode.
If you are talking of the fan in the exterior unit, then that fan is stuck or burned.
If you try to use in cold mode and the fan of the interior unit dont run, then you have problems in the electronic board.

Dont seem to get cold air, what is the best symbol to use? There is sun, snowflake, rain drop and few others either way it takes forever to get the house cold and sometimes it just simply just does not...

To get cold air set temp 23 degree and mode "cool".
Now symbols:
1. fan leaves - Fan only
2. Rain drop- Dry mode
3. Snow flake-Cool mode
4. Sun- Heat
5. A or AU- Auto mode.

Inside fan turns on when outside unit is in defrost mode when heat is selected. This causes it to blow cold air for about 10 to 15 minutes prior to the outside fan starting.

The inside fan will run while the unit is in defrost. The electric heat strips should kick on to help prevent you from feeling this cold air. When the unit is in defrost it is essentially running in the A/C mode. You should make sure the electric heat elements are working then go from there.

Fijutsui air conditoner

We had a similar problem. The timer light would blink 3 times, pause, then blink 3 times again, pause, and so on. The fan was blowing lots of air out, but the air was not cold. The operation light was off.

The technician came and fixed it for free, since it's actually easy to fix. He went to our circuit-breaker box, and cut power (from the box) to the air conditioners for 30 seconds. Then, he restored power - problem fixed!

It's apparently because the air con goes into a "safety" mode when there's a power surge.
