It's a guess but I think the "keyboard" and its associated processing parts are fried from a staticelectricity charge hitting the unit. See page 4-8 of the linked manual which references a "Front End Digital Board".
Good luck if you try to repair as Motara issued an End-of-Life notice effective 8/1/13 so no official repairs or parts are available (second link).
This particular device will not run on AC. Many medical devices are plugged into AC only to charge the battery. Make sure the green power LED light on back panel is working. If the battery is week and needs replaced, this can happen. Make sure the keyboard is plugged in properly also the power cord in the back of the machine can become disconnected and will not charge the battery. Have a technician verify that the display and backlight cables are securely connected but this will require the removal of the top cover, power supply and power supply boards. Display cable improperly connected. The cable is not fully
inserted into the jack and the right tab is not fully engaged to
lock in the cable.
After a crash, insert a USB flash drive and select Setup '
Service Functions ' Copy crash dump to USB

hi, ur Schiller at 2 has problem with its battery. just replace the same. its a12v battery. also clean the paper sensor With an ear bud (do not use any chemical use only ear bud). u can see the paper sensor on the side of printer head. a small square black portion. ok
hi, ur machines paper sensing sensor have some problem. did u used the paper with black mark on the side. remove the paper cover . u can see a black square sensor near the side of thermal printer. clean the sensor with an ear bud. do not use any solutions. then check again. remember use good quality paper. if the black mark on the side of the paper is not perfect this problem can occur (black mark on the paper is for page count and paper sensing) ok
Your machine has the wrong paper in it or the paper sensor is not working properly. There should be a black mark on the top left hand corner of each page. The correct ekg paper and ekg repair is available from Medical Device Depot.
