My old modem allowed me to connect through a hard wire ethernet connection to to the internet. My new Broadxent modem only allows me to connect my work desktop computer to the internet through an airport connection. Will it still be possible for me to remotely access my work desktop from home?
Yes this should work the same way without the need to connect a wire. However you will need to monitor your wireless connection quality to your new modem to ensure the quality of connection to your work desktop is good. If you remain within sight of the modem you will have the best connection in your home. Almost all modems allow a device to connect to the modem directly with either a usb or ethernet connection. If you can find the model number on the modem and post it here I can check if the new modem has those connections.

Your modem is what connects you to the internet, your Mac airport is a router...One of the quirks about Apple's AirPort Base Stations is that they are routers, but not modems. As a quick refresher: a router enables you to create a network that connects various devices together (Macs, iPhones, iPads, hard drives, printers and so on); whereas a modem connects your network to the wider internet.

The setting for the Computer 1, use the network connection wizard to automatically configure the modem to work as a server station. Next, set the IP number manually and the DNS at automatic or is given by your ISP. Now the Computer 2 (workstation) should be connected to a Hub/Switch. The same, go to network connection wizard and select the appropriate connection setting, there are view samples for the connection types so explore them. After the setup, try loading your internet browser.... When done, it should work fine. Keep me posted for any problems.

Check for the wireless security settings in your modem.. and check if your airport is connected properly, if it is connected properly, then you would get a valid ipaddress, try resetting the modem and reconfigure your wired and wireless settings, if possible , try to upgrade the latest firmware for your modem and then reconfig it..

Check the socket in either the router or the PC. I had the same problem, only with my modem. When I inspected the port, the pins were misaligned, causing it to drop a connection. I corrected mine with a screwdriver, which is not ideal but it works.

hi...
try to check the ethernet adapter on your computer...if the ethernet cable works fine with the other computer and the other one does not, then probably, the NIC CARD or ethernet adapter is defective...i advise, if you have someone or a technician or a friend who knows how to check...then you can do such,..or if it's a laptop..then youn can bring that to any computer stores and they have technicians there to check freely your case,k...
hope i give you something that may help a little with your concern....
happy new year!!!!!

your firewall might have an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) which locks your network if programmed to detect unwanted ports. Work on your firewall first. hope this helps..
