Once you start to get vertical lines on your LCD screen, it's usually time for a new screen. I would check first by running an external monitor just to be sure it's not the video card.

Your screen has a faulty connection you will have to replace the screen.

The vertical line is because the screen is going, it needs to be replaced fix the problem. Try searching on Ebay if your laptop isn't under warranty.

what has happened with your notebook is a simple wear factor. on the LCD screen there are ribbon cables witch join the main PCB controller head to the LCD laminated portion (what you see) have begun to wear. i have just recently replaced a screen because of the same issue. try gently flexing the the screen and see if the lines dissappear. next open the screen up, and check the cable running to the back of the screen take care as to not damage anything.

i have this problem and i fix it. this is due to vga cold solder on mainboard apply hot solder to vga and memory.

If you haven't tried to reinstall the video drivers, do that.
If that doesn't work, hook up an external monitor to see if the display is OK on that.
If it is, then your LCD screen has a problem and will need to be replaced.

In answer to your question. It may be a screen problem. as the screen has a Matrix of vertical and horizontal line configuration.
I,d suggest trying the laptop/computer on an external monitor or screen. if it works fine on an external. then it could be assumed that the TFT Panel or invertor has a fault.
if the picture/display still has vertical lines on an external monitor, then the fault may lie, with the Mainboard.

Process of elimination, before spending any Money :)
