Yes, a faulty mic can cause a radio not to transmit or receive. Try another mic and see if it works then. If it will not key up, it could be the final output transistor.

Does it receive?

Cobra 29 nw ltd classic key up with out a mic what is the problem what component is bad

If it "keys up" without a mic plugged in, try plugging the mic into the radio and see if it stops. Some radios require the mic to be plugged into it to operate properly. If it is keyed up with the mic plugged into it, try unplugging the mic and see if it stops. If it does stop when you unplug the mic, either the switch in the mic is stuck/went bad or there is a wire shorted in the mic cord to radio plug. Make sure pins 3 and 4 on the mic plug are not shorted. A continuity meter will tell you. If the mic is keyed, pins 3 and 4 will show a short, if the mic is not keyed, pins 3 and 4 should not show a short. If the mic is functioning normally but the radio is still keyed up then there is something in the radio that is shorted.

On my connex 4600 turbo cb radio i keyed the mic up to say something and the meter light and the channel number got dim and sort of flickered and distored, also the needle in the meter didnt swing at all...

I would think it was most likely a minor short in your mic, maybe dirt or moisture. If the short was in the back of the jack, it would most likely do it all the time. Same thing for your coax, if it was pinched in the door, I would think you would have reception/feedback issues even without keying the mic....the same antenna/coax is used for send and recieve.

IF it does it again, try switching in another mic and see if it goes away.

Hope this is helpful.

I have a texas ranger free spirit tr127fs it has no transmitt but the light come on when transmitt is pushed what is wrong

The first thing to check in this is the mic. If the mic is fine, then the next thing would be to check the final transistor. If it blows, then you will not transmit.

When the microphone is keyed theirs no power out

think cheap.first change the mic to see if that makes a difference. If it does you now have a new mic and a radio that works. Now it gets a little more expensive. you have to open the radio so the components show . Now ask yourself which one does what ? I know you can't answer it because if you could you wouldn't have posted this. I can tell you that its in your audio circuit . Now take it to a tech and have them fix it.

Fuse blows when I key the microphone. Why does this happen?

i am pretty sure something came loose or a connection went bad, now something is shorting, possibly to the chassis. if you think you know how to open it up and work on it than do it. Or take it to a tech and have them look at it. it should be a real quick, real simple fix.
