ASUS NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Graphics Card

I have a dual boot WinXP & Vista Asus system. The MOB is ASUS P5K-SE S775 with an Intel E6850 with an Asus EN8600GT Magic 512MB. When I boot in Vista the monitor re-adjusts it’s self to center the Video signal and all looks good and usable. When I boot into XP it does not adjust and the image is over scanned and the start button is unseen. The resolution glitch happens at all resolution and I natively run at 1224 by 768 which is comfortable for my eyes. I have the latest drivers. The monitor can be manually adjusted to fit the image which resolves the overscan. But Vista resets the monitor automatically. Speaking of monitors I’ve tried on a Dell 22”; EMV 17”; Dell 17” and an Apple 20” display and it occurs on all of them, so it’s safe to say it the Asus Video Card. Can someone point me to a fault finding process I’ve not covered/ or why this is happening. Thanx

I have an Asus P5K motherboard. I just bought an Asus GeForce GTX 460 video card. The computer will not post. From what I read prior to buying the card, it should work with this motherboard. Is there...

Hi Erika,

Assuming you purchased and installed the card into one of the 2 matching matching MoBo's PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots, make sure it is seated fully. Make sure you've got both power cables connected to the card.
steve_con_51.jpg
Two power connectors are on the upper right corner of card.

Next, you'll need a 450W rated power supply unit (PSU) in the PC as MINIMUM. If yours is a "run of the mill", "no name" or "oem" type, it is probably inefficient as the day is long - that means bumping up to a 550+ watt rated PSU instead.

Lastly, have look at page 3-1 of the manual. Look at the table that describes POST codes. if it will not POST, reinstall the GeForce 8600 video card and go for boot. If it works, I suspect that your PSU and / or power connections are lacking.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply - thanks!

Does p5k se motherboard support with GTX460 ?

If you are talking about the Nvidia Geforce gtx 460 video card working with the Asus p5k se motherboard?! YES!! That motherboard should have a pci-e 2.0 x16 expansion slot with is what this video card needs.

Hope this helps!

My geforce 9400 GT will not properly install drivers in my ASUS M2V-MX SE. When install the nvidia drivers old and new. the video card has a yellow exclamation next to it

If you uninstall the onboard driver and then update the new cards driver in device manager the problem should be solved.

If not you can always reinstall your operating system, that usually solves any driver issue.

If that doesn't work then your card is most likely not compatible with your motherboard.

Blue screen of death.

You might try setting the display adapter in the bios to PCI-X,
You could also try going into safe mode to see if you can install the new drivers and fix the problem.
Other than that you would need to stick the card in another computer and confirm whether it is functional.
I have the exact same card with Vista and had no issues, and have been very happy with it.

Can i put nVIDIA geforce 8600 on my p5sd2-vm

Yes, your Asus motherboard will support the Nvidia GeForce 8600 PCI-Express graphics card.
However one thing you should consider. The 8600 card is SLI compatible but the motherboard only has one PCI-E x16 slot.
You will also need to make some changes in your bios.
In order to help you configure your system for a PCI-E graphics follow these steps.
1. Uninstall your current display driver software through windows control panel. Windows may ask you to restart your system, do not restart. Shut windows down which will shut off the system.
2. Unplug the power cable from the system & open your case.
3. Install your 8600 card. (Double check it is installed correctly & if needed has the extra power cord connected to the card.
4. Re-connect the power cord.
5. During boot up enter the bios by pressing the Delete key every couple seconds.
6. Once in the bios click the Advanced tab, see top of page 2-19 in your manual.
7. Than open Onboard Device Configuration
Open North Bridge Configuration, see page 2-22
Change Primary Graphics Adapter to [PCI-E]
Change Internal VGA to [Disable]
Change Share Memory Size to [Disable]

8. Save Bios changes & exit. Your system will auto restart.
Once windows has finished loading install the 8600 driver software & directX 10.0. You can also go to nVidia & download the latest software driver @

Screen not starting after installing graphics card

Hi rohit1987,

The XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 256MB DDR3 PCI Express card uses two DVI ports on the back of the card. Display is most likely coming from the second port. Try moving your monitor cable to the next DVI port. You can do this while your system is running.
If you still do not receive display, post that here & we'll go over some other possibilities.

Good luck rohit1987!
