I downloaded Windows 7 and my wireless laptop won't connect to my 2wire. Where can I get new security key code or info get my laptop to work?

Hey pkkern,
.
Your default 10 digit security is located on the bottom of your router.
.
If you want to change it or for some reason your default key is no longer working we will have to get into the routers configuration homepage.
.
To access this open up your Internet browser and write in this address, (which is your routers address) 192.168.1.254.
.
If your routers homepage does NOT open up check to make sure you have no software firewalls
.
Click the Home Networking tab at the top of the 2Wire Home page.
.
Click EDIT SETTINGS located on the right panel (Status at a Glance) under the Wireless Settings heading.
.
You will see a wireless network security section, use the following information to select a custom wep-key.
.
Change your wireless settings and use the following information if you want to change to a custom WEP key. 64-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 10 characters in length. (For example, 123456789A is a valid string of 10 characters for 64-bit encryption.)
128-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 26 characters in length. (For example, 456FBCDF123400144445271730 is a valid string of 26 characters for 128-bit encryption.)
64-bit ASCII keys are exactly 5 characters in length. (For example, GMODE is a valid string of 5 characters for 64-bit encryption)
128-bit ASCII keys are exactly 13 characters in length (For example, 2008SUNSSWIN1 is a valid string of 13 characters for 128-bit encryption.)

Thanks for using fixya!
If you need information just comment in this thread and I will get back to you, don't forget to leave feedback!
Cheers,

Error code 51332 unable to connet to internet

Error Code: 51332 This error code usually indicates a problem relating to wireless security. Please try the following troubleshooting:
  1. Are you using WEP or WPA security on your router?
    1. Log into the router using the default IP (consult your router's manual for assistance)
    2. Locate the "wireless security" section of your router settings and find the WEP or WPA key.
    3. If you are using 64-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 10-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
    4. If you are using 128-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 26-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
    5. The WEP Key must be a Hexadecimal (0-9, A-F, no other special characters or letters).
    6. If your router has multiple slots for a WEP Key, make sure the active key is the one in the #1 slot.
    7. If you are using WPA, the Wii console is compatible with the following types:
      • WPA - PSK (TKIP)
      • WPA - PSK (AES)
      • WPA2 - PSK (AES)

  2. If your WEP or WPA key is correct, then the problem might be related to MAC address filtering:
    1. From the router settings, locate the "MAC address filter" settings (also known as "access control", "access list", or "network filter" depending on your router model).
    2. If the Mac address filter is set to "enabled", then you must add the Wii's MAC address to the "allowed" list. You can locate the Wii's MAC address from the "console information" page (located under "Internet" in the Wii Settings).
    3. If the Mac address filter was disabled, then continue troubleshooting.

  3. Check Nintendo's router info for special notes, if available, for your router.
    1. Click here to go to our Wireless Router lookup page.
    2. Use the drop-down box to select, if available, your router manufacturer.
    3. Click on your router's model number, if available.
    4. Read any "special notes" at the top of the router's page. Many issues can be solved by changing settings described in the "special notes."

  4. Try a "Manual Setup" with the Wii console (how to), using your network's IP configuration settings. To access these settings:
    1. On your PC, click "Start" and then "Run."
    2. Type "CMD" into the field that appears to open a new window.
    3. Type "IPCONFIG/ALL" and press "Enter" to display a list of internet settings. Locate the settings asked for by the Wii console during the Manual Setup process and enter them.

I have a DIR-625 N router and am unable to secure it

Hi dakingma1221,

To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

You may also connect using the NetBIOS name in the address bar (http://dlinkrouter).
Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default. Type in the graphical authentication code (if you cannot read it, click Regenerate).

To run the security wizard, click on Setup at the top and then click Launch Wireless Security Setup Wizard.
Click Next to continue.

Enter the SSID (Service Set Identifier). The SSID is the name of your wireless network. Create a name using up to 32 characters. The SSID is case-sensitive.
Select the level of security for your wireless network:
• Best - WPA2 Authentication
• Better - WPA Authentication
• None - No security
Click Next to continue.
If you selected Best or Better, enter a password between 8-63 characters.
If you selected Good, enter 13 characters or 26 Hex digits.
Click Next to continue.

If you selected Better, the following screen will show you your Pre-Shared Key to enter on your wireless clients.
Click Save to finish the Security Wizard.
If you selected Best, the following screen will show you your Pre-Shared Key to enter on your wireless clients.
Click Save to finish the Security Wizard.
If you selected WPA-Enterprise, the RADIUS information will be displayed. Click Save to finish the Security Wizard.

Good Luck,

Attempted to secure my wireless and now can't access internet

You do not need the manual or CD
1. Turn off both the linksys and your modem
2. Turn on your and wait for the usual lights to turn solid
3. Turn on the Linksys and wait 30 secs
4. Press the button on the front to the left. It does not look like a button but flashes while it is finding an ip address
5. Now connect with an Ethernet Network Cable and make sure the internet is working
6. Disconnect the cable and Connect Wirelessly
This will connect without any security
To setup the security do the following:-
In order to setup your Wireless Network Key you must first use a cable to connect to your router.
Once connected check that you are connected to the internet by opening Internet Explorer, safari, netscape or other internet browser
The address or the router is usually one of the following values:-
http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1
http://10.10.0.2
http://192.168.2.1
http://192.168.2.254
Try entering each and see if you get a logon box popping up
If you do, that is the correct address for your Wireless router, note it down.
If the box has the username and password completed, then click OK
If there is no value for username try "admin" and for the password try one of the following "password", "admin",
Also try nothing for the username and "admin" for the password
Sometimes the value for these are written on the underneath of the router
Once the router page is displayed, look for an item called Wireless Settings.
Enter a network name usually called the SSID
Find and enable security
Set to either WPA or WEP
Enter your required value:-

For WPA you may enter any letters and digits

For WEP only hexadecimal characters can be entered and for 64 bit its 10 characters
and for 128 bit it's 26 characters

Secure network

- access your web user interface by typing http://my.router (or the default address http://192.168.2.1) on the address bar of your web browser
- click on Basic Settings
- click on Wireless Security
- click on the Enable Wireless Security checkbox
- select either WEP or WPA in the Network Authentication list (Note: make sure that your wireless computers can support wpa if you're planning to use wpa. wpa is more secured than wep)
if you're going to setup wep, follow the steps below:

- select hexadecimal or ASCII characters as the Key Format, you can use either as a string of hexadecimal digits (character 0 ~ 9 and A ~F ) or as ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard)
- then select your desired encryption level from the Key Length list. it could be either 40(64)-bit or 104(128)-bit key length.
- enter four different keys in the Key1, Key2, Key3, and Key4 fields to store on your router.for 40(64)-bit encryption, enter a 5-character (or 10 hexadecimal digits).for 104(128)-bit encryption, enter a 13-character (or 26 hexadecimal digits) WEP key (note: you'll just need to enter the characters that you've setup on Key1 for all the wireless computers that you have
- click NEXT, then Save and Restart to apply the changes

if you're planning to enable wpa, follow the steps below:

- enter your pre-shared key. this key must match the key that is used by each wireless client computer associated to your router.
- choose a key format. this can be hexadecimal digits (0-9, A-F) or ASCII characters (any key on the keyboard)
- WPA Group Rekey Interval specifies how often the key "rotates" or changes
- WPA Encryption allows you to select 1 of 2 possible encryption methods (TKIP and AES) - choose one that your wireless clients supports
- click NEXT, then Save and Restart to apply the changes

then connect your wireless computers to your wireless signal using the correct wireless security (network key)

hope this'll help you.

Microsoft Broadband Networking Setup Wizard does not start

CAUSE This issue may occur when the Network ID setting on your computer is configured with a workgroup name that contains a special character--for example, a period. A workgroup name can contain up to 15 characters, including letters, numbers, and the following characters:! @ # $ % ^ & ( ) _ - ; : ' " ,. It cannot contain any spaces, and must start with a letter or a number. The NetBiosName class considers the majority of those special characters as invalid so the problem may occur if the workgroup name contains other characters besides the period. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, change the workgroup name to something that does not contain special characters. To do this, follow these steps. Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. Note Follow these steps on all computers that are in your workgroup. 1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2.
