I tried turning it on, removing the battery, replacing the battery, and turning it on. This didn't work. When I repeated this but also removed the memory card, it did work.
Many times this kind of problem is a result of more than just one thing. It could be caused by dirt or sand in the lens track. It could be caused from lens parts being damaged from an impact. Look at my other posts on lenses and problems. If there are noises from the lens, it is internally broken, more than likely the small gears are either broken or stripped.
I too was having problems as my camera switched on but had a blurry screen and would not focus. I took out the battery while switched on and carefully cleaned the lens and magically when i placed the battery back and and switched it on ...IT WORKED!!!! thanks for your advice.....was going to throw the camera away!!!!!!! THANK YOU

Sounds like the shutter has been damaged and is stuck open, which overexposes photos and gives a 'venition blind' effect - the shutter and/or lens unit would need to be replaced. Probably marginal given low replacement costs.
Hi, I had exact the same problem with mine Samsung L730. I opened it and took the 2 flatcables from the circuit board (to the lens-unit) out of there connectors. After I put them back in again, the camera worked. I geuss it was a bad electric connection of the lens-unit. Maybe this will solve your problem. If the camera is older than 1 year and has no warrenty, just try this. Good luck.
Met the same problem. I disassembled camera and found a lot of sand in lens transmission. I couldn't move lens even by hand. It was strongly jammed. I had to disassemble lens block completely to remove all sand. Now camera fully functional.
i have the same problem with these camera. to get it fixed just take out the battery wait for a few sec and put the battery back on, then switch the camera on. for the lens just gently move/force the lens to open, then turn off the camera wait for a few seconds then turn on the camera back on see what happens. and if still persist keep doing it till gets back to normal.
this sometimes happens to my camera from time to time i think it just its wear and tear.
one more problem with this camera is that it'll go blurr, just do the basic turn off or take out the battery wait a few sec and then turn it back on.
hope this will help u.
This camera would have to be tested more, but it sounds like a ccd or sensor problem. If this camera was made around the year 2000 or after a bit, then it could be a ccd problem common with many Sony made ccds in this period. A loose connection internally could also cause similar problems.
