Ahhh..well...that is in the settings, under control panel. Not certain that it includes this option, but you can find that under control panel, and keyboards settings..you might need to add that option to your list. Not too hard to implement.

How can I write a pound sign by using a dell keyboard

The easiest way is to hold down the Alt key and type "156", then release the Alt key. You will see a British pound (£) sign appear. However, sometimes "pound" means the number sign (#), but that's mostly used in voicemail prompts.
If you use the first pound symbol a lot, you can either keep it on the clipboard, or consider remapping a key you never use (like the tilde, or ~) to type that character (see http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article02-022).

Hope this helps!

The pound sign on my Dell keyboard does not work. It types the # sign??

In the United States # is the pound sign (shift-3), in the UK the term "pound sign" is understood to mean the currency symbol, £, for pound sterling

The pound symbol is shown as being on the number 3 key, however it is not available on any key. The @ symbol is supposed to be on the ' key but is actually hidden under the number 2 key. I need the pound...

Go To control panel - Regional and language options and click on Languages tab; there click on Details button in "text services and input languages" ; then change the default input language to English (United Kingdom). Then the keyboard layout will change to UK standard and you will find the Pound symbol.Change it back to English (US) once your purpose is over

I get the wrong symbol when typing on my new dell

Hold-down the ALT GR ("alternate graphic") key, to the right of the space-bar, and press the '2' key, release the ALT GR key, and you should get '@'.

Shift-3 does prints # instead of Btisih pound

This is because it is set to US english keyboard layout rather than UK English layout.

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Keyboard

British Pound symbol

If you have Windows XP, click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and choose "Character Map" - you should see and be able to copy the symbol to the clipboard you need from there.

Good Luck!
