Maybe the software that was installed is not the correct one for the all in one .So check the HP site once again and see if there is a new link to get your software or post a query to them .

Try doing an NvRam on the printer (Hard Reset):
1. Turn the printer off
2. Press and hold the right arrow and the cancel button
3. Turn the printer on while still holding those buttons
4. Keep holding them until you see a message that say "permanent storage init"

This should clear that error message

You must be using new hp original supplies otherwise the unit will not recognize the cartridge.

Try checking with flash light if theres a broken piece or a small piece of paper that could be blocking the printer sensors before you reinstall the cartridge

Use the vista driver, I have used the vista driver for a lot of hardware with not problems.

Windows 7 is really vista, no where no major changes to the Kernel.

Say that the driver, say operating system not supported, HP has a universal driver for windows 7.
