I have a Model DVD8506B DVD player. It works fine with DVD disc, but rejects VCD or CD disc. What might be the problem? Thanks

Easy... follow these instructions

  • unplug from the mains
  • take the cover off (3 screws on back panel, 1 screw each side, sticker on top front)
  • You will see the DVD disk in the player drive
  • Remove the plastic ******** top of the drive - 2 x small phillips screws
  • Lift out the DVD disk.... done.

Most dvd players (or anything with a laser) will fail eventually. If the laser failed, there isn't much point trying to get it repaired.

Disc rejection
Try using a DVD / CD cleaner disc in the unit - this might fix the problem - I had the same format error on a Toshiba unit using Sony and VBerbatim discs - once cleaned the unit worked fine

It depends on the model you have. The best model would support the following :-

CD, VCD, MP3 Disc, Windows Media Audio Disc, DivX Disc Compatible

Kenwood DVD player 5 speaker system
There is nothing wrong with it, it is set to only play in the region it was purchased from. That is how all DVD players are made, with regional settings. No repair is going to help, you just need a DVD player from the proper region to play those disc's.

Sony dvp-ns425p will play regular CD, but won't play any DVD
just open the player (4-6 screws) and clean the lens. I had a similar problem (plays VCD, CD but no DVD - tray will open immediately). It worked afterwards

Various LG DVD Player
Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
