ReSetting Bios Password on Toshiba Satellite A135-S2386

1)Remove Laptop Battery

2)Take off Memory Cover(underneath - square cover, Sits in middle of laptop 1 retaining screw

3)Using two thumbs spread spring clips to outside and pull out RAM memory.

4)Remove clear vinyl label opposite RAM memory slots in upper left corner( laptop battery slot is on right, DVD drive is facing away from you)

5)Using a magnifying glass (unless you have perfect vision)in the upper left corner you will see JOPEN1 with a white silkscreen square next to it . Inside the square you will see what looks like the letter T over a U. Using a metal paper clip short the U to the Silver 1/4" post connecting the motherboard to the laptop case(this is your ground, it is located above what looks like a silkscreen outline of a chip)hold for 25 -30 seconds.

6) Place back your RAM memory, put in the laptop battery and test start laptop. you should see a selection of F1 or F2 for setup. Using the F2 gets you into the Bios menu where you reset the time and date. Then Tab over to the SECURITY setting tab and change your passwords. Now hit F10 key ,yes to save and your done!

Note: if your having trouble your most likely grounding the ground(that blob of solder about 1/8"dia on both ends of the "silkscreen chip outline"

You need to clear the passwords, you can do this by using a boot cd called Hiren's boot CD. IT does everything from clear administrator passwords to harddrive passwords and so much more. Download, burn to a CD and navigate to the administrator password reset option. http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd

I installed in my daughter ion laws laptop and need to flash bios so i can update it and it says password needed .She doesn't remember password ,how can I get around the password in bios?

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa!

BIOS is one important component of a computer, its where you can change some important settings inside the computer itself. Are you the one who set up the BIOS password? If not, unfortunately, there's no way for us to retrieved the password. The only way you can reset the password to default settings is to reseat the CMOS battery on the motherboard, its a circular thing that looks like a battery of a watch, sometimes a pin hold it, just detached it then wait for at least 30 minutes then connect it back again,

Note: Before you reseat the CMOS battery, make sure that everything is unplugged on the computer, like AC adapter, battery and all external devices...

Hope this will help...Thank you for using Fixya...

The BIOS being locked by a password will not stop the laptop starting up, it will just stop acess to the BIOS to change any settings so there is more here than we know.

Can you acess the boot sequence on start up and is the HDD listed?

Where is Cmos Clear jumper on motherboard to clear Bios password.

If you can't find the jumper, just remove the CMOS battery wait for 1/2 + hour and the re-insert the battery. This will reset the BIOS back to the default settings and you then need to set the Time & Date.
It may not remove the BIOS password if the laptop stores the password on an EEPROM chip.

Forgot password

Ok ive found out, there are two ways 2 do it 1u just need to take out the battery, and Press the on/off button for 5seconds, the 2nd is more drastic u need to dissasemble all parts and take off the small battery(its even in PCs) and hold iit for ten minutes, then its going to be ok (ive did the second way, because the first way works only on some notebooks)
or

BIOS passwords can be reset in two ways,
1. using software 2. using hardware.

I would first try resetting using software, here are two software's to reset or retieive BIOS passwords.

!BIOS - is a PC BIOS toolkit offering password removal/decrypt and BIOS settings modification/backup/restore.

CmosPwd - Cmos password recovery tools 4.8

Please let us know if it works.
