It sounds like you scratched the disc in that one spot. That is why they tell you to not move the console while a disc is in it because it can damage the disc. That is why I always back up my discs using this http://tinyurl.com/mjgh4xz
The vertical lines/bar are sign of bad T-CON (LCD controller driver) board is bad, it is part of the LCD panel assembly, new screen will be needed, not worth it. You may try reseating the ribbon cable at the panel. http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LCD%20panel/
A save point will be to the left and a --GREEN CHEST-- and --BLUE CHEST-- will be off to the right upon exiting the cave. Walk over to the bridge then jump to the next section and walk to the end of the bridge for a cutscene. This battle will start with an Action Sequence. This first part of the battle will decide which character will be on top of the other as they both plummet into the chasm. Fail to press the proper directions and Icarus will automatically win Once the two have started falling, tap [], /\, or O to attack Icarus while falling into the chasm below.
The BIG VAMPIRE, is ICARUS, keep trying to move around, obviously without falling down and he wil drop from the celing in an attempt to ambush you as you go for the exit.
