I bought one of these servers second hand to do some of my assignments on. I installed windows server 2003 and then the array configuration untility for windows. The server has 5 9.1Gb drives in. I then tried to make a raid 0 with 2 disks and a raid 5 with the other 3. So i made some changes and it wanted a reboot so i re booted the server. Now when the server boots get i message "1785-slot 7 drive array not configured. Run compaq array configuration utility" if i press F1 to ignore and continue it says no boot disk and if i try install sever 2003 from the cd it does not find the disks. Ive looked at the HP/Compaq support site and i can find a "Compaq System Configuration Utility" which gives me an option to to run Drive array configuration but when i select it it asks for the drive array configuration disk (floppy). I also get a message saying no logical drives detected. So the way i have it is i have to configure the array with drive array configuration and then install windows on the configured array, but i can not find the drive array configuration disks any where, nor can i get my havd on a copy of smart start 5 or lower to test if that works.
Please Help
Hi Foambob,
Try all means to get a smartstart CD.
Normally new version will be able to use on older hardware , but no guarantees.
I have always found it easier to use smartstart CD auto mode.
You can also do the install and then run ntssd to update all the drivers etc., but I don't recommend it for novices. Use the auto mode , it takes longer but safely and surely.
Good luck
