After many months, I solved the problem of the red light staying on the Tassimo Coffee Maker. Use these easy steps.
1. Fill a 2 cup measuring cup with hot water.
2. Mix in descaler.
3. Pour in the empty water tank.
4. Put the yellow cleaning disk in the chamber and close chamber. Put the two cup measuring cup under the spout.
5. Push and hold the brew button for about 3 seconds (until the red and green light flash.
6. Now don't touch the machine. It will do it's thing for about 20 minutes. (Don't be impatient and start to push buttons, just leave it)
7. When it finishes it's cycle. The red light will turn off. Then clean the water tank and put fresh water and run clean water through the brewing cycle 4 times. Your machine is now ready for use.

What brand of descaler did you use in your Tassimo? Where can I purchase the descaling product?

  • Anonymous Jan 10, 2011

CLR says ratio of 1 part CLR to 8 parts water , I use less , and it seems to do the job , don't forget to rinse well after using descaling product .. book does not recommend vinegar as a descaling agent.

I tried the CLR to descale machine

It worked like a charm! Thank you. I was doing it ALL wrong.

  • Anonymous Nov 19, 2012

Thank you so much for the clear instructions on how to descale, the important point to remember is that do not touch it and start pressing all the buttons, let it do its work for that 20 mins as described above. I did the 3 seconds thing and after one pour, I thought that was it and I have to go on pressing the green button to let it run. It's nonsense to think that the machine is not working, WE JUST HAVE TO BE PATIENT, of course 20 mins is long but it's part of the process, then run it through with clean water 4 times which does make sense. If you don't you won't get a good coffee taste from your Tassimo.

Joannie_21 Thankyou very much for your advice, it worked perfectly! As an old bloke living alone, I don't have much joy with remedies and fixing things, but your advice put my Bosch back to work in twenty minutes. I just wonder why Bosch don't put this advice in their trouble shooting column?
    Thank you once again lady!!

But my T55 is 2 months old and the Descale Red Light does not go out even after descaling as per the instructions. This is not my first Tassimo machine, but given the lack of interest response from Bosch, it may well be my last

Minerals left behind by water can cause coffee to lose flavor or even damage the components of the brewer. Since water is an integral part of brewing coffee, a cleaning process known as descaling is a necessary part of maintenance. Tassimo machines are equipped with an automatic descaling detector. When the "Descaling" indicator illuminates, you should immediately run the descaling program. This program removes any mineral buildup left by water and ensures optimum flavor of each drink brewed. Difficulty: Easy Instructions things you'll need:

  • Descaling solution
  • 17-ounce container
  • Water
    • 1

Lift the handle of the Tassimo water tank. The water tank is located in the back of the Tassimo machine. Grip the handle and pull upward to remove the tank from the machine.

    • 2

Remove the service T-disk from the back of the Tassimo machine. Open the brewing station by lifting the lid until you hear a clicking sound. Hold the disk so the barcode is facing down and place it on top of the disk holder. Firmly press down on the lid to close the top of the brew station.

    • 3

Fill the water tank to the max fill line and pour the descaling solution into the tank. Insert the water tank into the back of the machine. Press down firmly on the water tank to ensure it is in the correct place.

    • 4

Remove the cup stand from under the drink dispenser. Place a container able to hold a minimum of 17 ounces under the drink dispenser.

    • 5

Press and hold the "Start/Stop" button until the "Automatic" and "Descaling" indicators illuminate. The "Automatic" indicator resembles a steaming coffee cup and the "Descaling" indicator has three small lines displayed.

    • 6

Wait approximately 20 minutes. When the descaling procedure is complete the "Automatic" and "Descaling" indicator lights turns off.

    • 7

Remove the water tank and rinse it thoroughly. Fill the tank with fresh water to the max fill line. Empty the container and place it back under the drink dispenser.

    • 8

Open and close the brewing unit. Keep the T-disk in place on top of the disk holder. Press and hold the "Start/Stop" button until the Tassimo begins the rinsing process.

    • 9

Repeat Steps 7 and 8 four additional times.

    • 10

Open the brewing station and remove the T-disk. Place the disk into the storage slot in the back of the machine. Close the brewing station lid.

All lights flash at same time-I need a descaling disc- do not have!

I found that my local appliance parts place (Reliable Parts) had them for about $7 each which was quite a bit less than ebay sellers and direct from Tassimo.
(Make sure yours is not hiding in its slot on the back of the machine.)_

I descaled my tassimo brewer, and now the red light wont go off pls advise

Hi, Red light means something needs attention. Descale solution is very corrosive and may have caused damage. I cant think of anything that would do this. Try switching it off and unplugging it for a few minutes. Hopefully resetting it will fix your problem. Dazza REPAIRER

The red light is staying on, what do i need to do?

The light stays on if you do not follow the instructions when descaling. You must hold the button for 3 seconds to descale. It takes about 20 minutes. If you press the button for less than 3 seconds with the service disc you just run the water through quickly to rinse/clean and the machine doesn't reset the rescale light.

Red de scaling light won't shut off

Removing the red descaling light is simple.
1. Fill reservoir with half vinegar and half water (no need for the special descaling product from Tassimo).
2. Turn on machine.
3. Insert yellow cleaning disc found in back of machine.
4. This is where most people have the their problem...You must hold the start button for 3 to 5 seconds for the descaling program to start. Both green and red light will flash.
5. Once started, use a large cup to catch the output of water.
6. The machine will cycle through the descaling program in about 30 to 45 minutes. Be paitent!!!
7. Once completed, run many cups of plain water through the system to remove the vinegar taste.
8. Red light problem is solved.

Hope this works for you.

I can't get rid of the red light on my Tassimo after descaling and cleaning manually. Please help

Please read this if your red descaling light won't turn off: Key is to follow directions. When you fill the tank with water to descale add 500 cc - no more. The machine "knows" that the cycle ends when water runs out. Once water runs out the red light will turn off. Continue with cleaning the tank and running a cleaning cycle. The red light is gone and you are good to go.

Red descale light is on

I use distilled white vinegar, but you can use specialized coffee cleaners with this model:

Descaling
Descaling 11
Descale your Tassimo machine every three months to keep it
operating at full potential.
1
Descaling products are widely available from stores selling coffeemakers and espresso
machines. Only use a product intended for descaling. Mix the descaling product
directly in the water container, following the instructions provided on the descaling
packaging. Replace the water container on the machine.
2 Place a large cup or mug on the cup stand, insert the cleaning disc, bar code down,
and close the brew mechanism. When the AUTO light illuminates, press and release
the start/stop button. The brew cycle will fill the machine with descaling solution. Empty
the cup and let the machine stand for 15 minutes.
3 Open the brew mechanism and close it again, leaving the cleaning disc in place.
When the AUTO light illuminates, press and release the start/stop button. When the
machine stops running, empty the cup, and let the machine stand for 15 minutes.
Repeat this step two more times for maximum descaling effectiveness. Discard the
remaining descaling agent from the water container, rinse it thoroughly and refill
with fresh, cold water.
4 Open and close the brew mechanism again, leaving the cleaning disc in place.
When the AUTO light illuminates, press and hold the start/stop button to flush water
through the machine. The MANUAL light will flash. When the cup is full, release the
start/stop button, empty the cup, and replace it on the cup stand.
5 Repeat step 4, flushing clean water through the machine in the same manner and
emptying the cup as it fills. To ensure that all the descaling solution is completely rinsed
away, flush two full water containers through the machine before using it again.

Descale red light, wont go off, and can i use any delcale tabs

Solution: Just refill the water tank with water (no descaling solution) all the way to the "Max Line". Then run the full descaling program again --takes approx. 20 minutes. After the program runs completely you will get the yellow "standby" light on and the red "descaling" light will be off.

Next time you descale, be sure and fill your water tank to the "Max Line" before running the descaling program.
Hint: An incomplete cycle (not full tank) is what makes the red light stay on. In other words, it's staying red to tell you to run a full cycle (beginning with the water tank filled to the "Max Line"). Hope this tip is helpful!
