To send or receive faxes, you just need to make sure the correct phone cable (the one that came with the all-in-one) is connected to the jack of the active phone line. If you had a distinctive ring for the second line, you need to turn that feature off. (Setup > 4 > 3 and change the Answer Ring Pattern to off). Make sure that you connect any other devices so that they will not interfere.

To change the fax header (including the phone number), Press Setup > 4 > 2. (Basic Fax Setup and Fax Header). Enter your name (if you need to adjust that line) followed by Done on the visual keyboard and press OK. Then enter your phone number with the numeric keyboard and press OK. An easier option is to change the header in the HP Director software on the computer. (This is part of the HP Image Zone software.) If you do not use that package, adjust the headers in any computer fax program that you have.

I hope this helps.

I cannot send nor receive

Do you mean you can't send or receive faxes? Check the phone connections on the back of the machine. Plug a phone into the phone jack and try to make a call. If the line is good, check your settings and make sure the fax function isn't disabled.

We have the L 7680. Last week we changed from ATT dsl line with filter to ATT Uverse. They installed. With the change, our fax stopped working in/out. It reads as No Answer from outbound attempts and...

The Uverse service appears to be all digital - so any voice/phone channels are going to be VOIP....not real analog lines as you had before. So, you need to connect the HP fax to a phone line service. Did ATT provide you a phone number? (or perhaps 2 phone numbers) Then the fax should be connected to that line. If you are unsure, then connect a phone to the provided line and listen for dial tone. If you are connecting a fax to a VOIP line then a good suggestion is to drop the fax speed to 9600....this will provide more reliable connections. Hope this helps

Where can I find instructions for programming the FAX?

Hi!
I have written some steps below through which you can program the fax in HP Photosmart 2610:
  1. First of all, verify that the phone cable is fully inserted into the fax machine. If your model has a removable line interface unit (LIU) that the phone line plugs into, verify that it is securely snapped in place. If the fax is an HP Officejet R80 series model, also verify that the cable that runs from the automatic document feeder assembly to the back of the all-in-one base is connected.
  2. Reconnect the power cord to the unit and then plug it in to the wall outlet. After the fax initializes and is ready, try to send and receive faxes. If the problem exists, continue to Step two: Check the connections.
May be this will resolve your problem.

Thanks

Hi my machine wont send or recieve a fax despite being properly connected. printing from computer is fine. has worked fine up until today

Hi check the following article to from HP
Problems with sending and receiving FAX

HP FAX ISSUES

Check the TELEPHONE LINE

Make sure that you have plugged the phone cord directly and securely into the wall jack and into the back port of the fax product. The fax port on your product is marked "Line," "To Wall Jack," or with a wall jack symbol.

Check LIU

Make sure the Line Interface Unit (box that the phone cord plugs into) is fully seated into the back of the fax product.

Remove the SPLITTER

Remove any other devices from the line such as splitters, credit card machines, or telephone answering machines.

Can try sending the Fax on Another Line

CHECK WITH DIFFERENT CABLE
Try using a different telephone cord.

Sometimes, my HP Photosmart 2610 tries to connect to a regular phone call (not a call from a fax machine). It only does this once or twice a month. It is so unexpected, that I'm shocked everytime it does...

It may be a phone line problem, like noise that your printer thinks is a ring. Check your answer settings first and you might try reinstalling the drivers. You might also try using a phone line surge protector to delete any spikes that wonder by. You might also experience your phone ringing and no one there. Be aware that all power on your phone line comes from the phone company. It can have no connection to your house power or ground.

My HP Photosmart 2610 will send faxes but wont receive them.

Hi,
If your issue is somewhat like this:
When receiving a fax the line disconnects. No faxes or calls can be made until the fax being received is cancelled.
Then, Try the following procedure:
  1. Ensure that you have a two contact phone cable connected to line 1 socket of the printer and that the other end of the cable is connected to the phone jack in the wall.
  2. Perform a partial reset on the printer. To do this first remove the power supply from the back of the printer. With the power off press and hold the # and 3 keys.
  3. Plug the power back into the printer, keep holding the # and 3 keys till you see “ Partial Reset ” displayed on the printer screen.

How to set up auto answer on hp 2610

Go into the fax menu/settings and specify number of rings before answering.
Please be aware that phone answering devices can intercept the call before the fax can autoanswer if they are sharing the same line.

Cannot receive faxes, but can send

Hello,
I can send faxes from my HP Fax 1010, but cannot receive them. I can dial the number from another phone but it will keep ringing and the machine never picks up. We have tested the phone line and all seems well. Is there some setting on the fax machine itself that I need to change in order to receive? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Can't send a fax

It's doubt it is your fax machine that is the problem.

I think you will find tha either the fax's line is faulty or
the way you are dialing a particular number is incorrect or has changed, does it say the same no matter where you try to fax to?

Check you are using or not using any number needed for a outside line if required.
