Question about Philips 50PFP5332D 50 in. Plasma Television

Open Question

My Tv wont turn on and it makes this repetitive clicking sound . there is no red light blinking, everything looks normal except for the blank screen. this has happened a couple of times before but usually if we kept it on and clicking for a while, it would stop clicking and turn on. when it turns on the picture is good quality and good color and the sound is perfect. Today we tried turning the tv on at 1:30pm and it has been clicking continuously until now (5:40pm). if we try to turn the tv off it does not work and if we unplug the tv from the wall and put it back after a while the tv will continue to stay on and click. please help me and tell me how i can fix this and if I need a professional how much do you think that would cost? thanks - disappointed PHILIPS 50" plasma HD-TV owner

After you remove the back cover inspect the power supply board for swollen or bulging capacitors. Pull and check any capacitors that you suspect to be swollen. Next, look for a sticker in the upper right hand side of the TV set. Use the values you find on the sticker to calibrate the voltages on the power supply board.

SOURCE: I have a Philips 50 inch plasma tv. The light is

I have Philips 50 inch plasma TV purchased almost exactly 3 years ago. Completely out of warranty. Paid 1999 bucks for it new. Now Plasma TVs similar to this are 800 bucks. I figured the cost of a repair tech coming to the house would be around 500 bucks.. so I decided I could "do no harm" and look at the power supply. Sure enough, two 3300 uF caps were swollen.. I am far from a true electrical repair person, and if it were not for the caps being swollen, would have no idea that they were bad. I am however a little bit skilled in soldering. So I ordered replacements for about 8 bucks. The caps were actually only 1.50 ea. but the min order fee and shipping brought it to about 8 bucks.. I got them from studiosoundelectronics.com . They came in today and installed them... to my astonishment, my TV works as good as it did when it was new... I must say that I am dissapointed in Philips.. and will never buy another product from them. If it is out of warranty.. they will not even talk to you.. I don't think it is too much to ask when you spend 1999 bucks on a product from them.. I expected my TV to have more than 2.999 years in life in it. Thanks a million to this site for providing soulutions for folks..

TV goes to blank screen standby after one second of normal functioning green power light on. When in standby state, the TV is blank like it's off and the red standby light blinks FOUR times.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

When I turn on my 50" Plasma TV the light goes from red to green. The Green LED flashes 14 times then solid. There is a white raster but no picture or sound.

I was watching TV and all of a sudden the screen went blank and wont come back on. I can unplug the TV and when I plug it back up, you can hear it clicking like it wants to come on but doesnt. The light...

Hi, you failed to mmention what make and model the tv is. But it sounds to me like a Samsung from experience. If it is then you need someone to check the power supply capacitors. The ones with bulging tops are faulty and need replacing. If it isnt a samsung, still look on the power supply pcb for signs of this and you will be on the right track.
