Youre convergence ICs need to be replaced. there are two of them they are STK392-110 you can get replacement ICs at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pics so you can do the repair yourself. Heres the link

usually the standby power is at fault if the led doesnt come on. Your symptoms sounds like a damaged convergence IC.
There are two and sometimes three very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.
If your colors line up in the middle of the set and at the top but the picture is concave then you may have a faulty component in the pincushion circuit. When this circuit fails the picture will have an hourglass shape to it with black in the middle on the sides, or you will see square objects as hourglass shapes. If it is like you described and it is in the top and bottom, you may have a problem in the top and bottom pincushion circuit.
You stated that the charge will be $80.00 to diagnose this problem, I would ask if the diagnostic applies to the repair, if you choose to repair the set.
I have seen this type of repair run from $250.00 - $350.00.
If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon and it should only add the cost of the part to the repair.

Picture you submitted with this is Toshiba--if set is Panasonic pt47wx42 it uses two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC'S----both need to be replaced and any of the blue 2.2 ohm resistors around them that are bad changed also--the resistors are light blue in color--if you locate them look for any that are white in the middle. The convergence chips are on metal heat sinks next to each other and are black(about 2 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch tall). They will have the STK-392-110 number printed on them in white.
You can buy both chips on Ebay for less than 20 dollars including shipping. I have step by step instructions for this repair on this kind of set--if you have the skill you can do it yourself.
Most of these sets just need the two chips changed and the set adjusted. If you cannot do the repair yourself--now is the slow time of year for TV shops--shop around--I do this kind of repair in the home--takes about an hour--shops will try to charge 300-400 for this and I do it for 200-250----I have done hundreds of these sets in the last year.
If someone wants to "take it to shop" keep looking; any good tech can fix this in your home; once the chips are replaced they will be good for about 5 years--some go 8 years.

You did not ask---the reason they fail is there is a white heat sink grease applied to each of them when they are installed--it transfers heat from the chip to the metal quickly--after several years it dries out from the heat and the chip reaches a point where it cannot move the heat fast enough--it then fails.

5 blinks is short protection, it means a short on the 140 volt line coming from the set's power supply.
Most likely is the horizontal output transistor is bad.
Let me know if you want to know how to get at it and test it.
The set has a light box that contains everything that can be removed for this kind of service.
I am very familiar with this set and have fixed hundreds of them.

My tv does the same thing. I turned it on and the picture came up for a brief second. Then it turned itself off and the red power light blinked three times consecutively and the picture was not regained.
Do i also need to change out the convergence ICs?
i have the same thing. power light flashes 3 times...no picture. is the convergence part STK392-110 my solution?
I have the same problem. My projection tv powers up for 1 second and it powers down. it will not re-powerhen the stand by light blinks 3 times consecutively.

I had the same problem. I replaced the convergence IC's and now the set powers up, shows a purple screen with wavy white lines and shuts down after a minute or so. Either I did something wrong on the repair, or screwed up something else in the process.
Same, Same, Powers up for a second, with picture, then goes out and the LED blinks 3 times. If i unplug it and then plug it in again, it will start up again for a second than blank out and give me the 3 blink. It started after a power outage! Turning it off is not enough, it needs to be unplugged--I have discovered!
