Your ipod has problem with its battery. No other way other than replacing the same. The following Video will help you to open the ipod. Check the part number for the battery and find a new one with the same part number.

Charge it !

Leave it in for 4- 8 hours.

Check the power cord or the charger first . If they both work fine , then the problem will be the battery . When a battery is dead it can't be recharged anymore . If you found that the battery is fine also , then the problem will be hardware failure . Take it to the service for hardware failure . If they couldn't solve the problem , then you need new device .

It may need a firmware update, or the battery is bad. Try their site, I had success w/one of my ipod's with the same problem, now it works fine. Hope this helps.

You need to charge the battery, either by using an adapter to connect it to a wall socket and plug, or by using the supplied usb connector and leaving your computer on long enough for the ipod battery to fully charge...

Temperature is a huge factor in the battery life of an ipod. Excessive heat and cold can kill a battery almost instantly in some cases. A 20GB is a bit antique anyways and even if you fix the battery, the hard dive is sure to follow. Hard drives are only designed to last about five years and then then wear out. I would recommend an update but you can try fixing the battery.
