If you want to upgrade you unit be sure that the motherboard socket are totally fix with the processor. The compatibility is important because if it is not compatible the motherboard can not support the processor,

select any windows version, then from the list of items open up manuals and find it there

Sorry but the Asus P5RD1-VM MB does not support any dual core CPU. Here is the Asus link showing supported CPU's.
