Please help. Whenver I switch off my ipod nano ( with the lock switch off) using the play/pause the backlight switches off, but the ipod is not really asleep. Its as if its only on pause as the display will go back on with just a touch of a button. no apple log appears. The problem is the ipod's newly charged battery runs down overnight without me having played a song.
What can I do so that the ipod switches off fully, ie the battery does not run down?
I have the same problem and i don't know if its worth buying a new battery unless its the ipod thats broken. But I can charge it up, it will last for a few hours (not as long as it used to) but even if I've turned it off and not used it, after 3/4 hours after charging, it won't turn back on and needs to be charged again, so frustrating!!I have the same problem and i don't know if its worth buying a new battery unless its the ipod thats broken. iPods have no traditional on/ff switch. They power up with the slightest touch, which makes turning the iPod on as simple as touching the menu. Turning the iPod off, however, can be more tricky. Waiting for automatic shut off wastes battery life, and surfing the menus yields no way to stop the device from running. Turning off the iPod Nano, though, is almost as simple as turning it on.
Locate the "hold" or "lock" switch at the top of your iPod Nano. It will be located on the top of your device on the left side. Make sure the device is unlocked. When the device is locked, an orange bar is visible. When it is unlocked, that bar is not visible. The iPod needs to be unlocked in order to power off. Locate the "play/pause" buttons. These are located at the bottom of the control wheel. Press at the "play/pause" section of the wheel and hold for a few seconds. Your iPod will power off. Do not touch the wheel again after powering off, as this will power the device back on. Locate the "hold" or "lock" switch again. Slide the bar to the locked position so that the orange bar is visible. This will prevent your iPod from powering on in your purse or pocket and wasting battery time.

Please check if the lock switch on top edge is not locked. Unlock it by pushing to one side and then switch on the ipod by pressing the play/pause button

then create a library of music in itunes and plug your ipod into the computer and sync your ipod with itunes to download the music onto it.
If the ipod has music on it already then you can just scroll through the library on it to listen to the music, if it is not music you want, then follow the above advice and you will be able to copy your own music into itunes then sync it with your ipod.
Reset your Ipod using the following procedure: Turn hold on (lock) Turn hold off (unlock) Hold in Menu button and middle button until Ipod shuts down and starts up again.
First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top or bottom and slides
back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. Once it is to the
left, here's how you reset:
You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round
button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see
an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will
shut off, then back on.
