You should be able to modify and delete playlists/songs by connecting the player to your computer and accessing the files by going into my computer and selecting the player drive.

The easiest way to delete songs from it will be to connect it to your computer-> Open the mp3 folder and select the songs you want to delete. Hit shift+del to delete them. Then close the window, use the safely remove hardware to stop the device and disconnect it from your computer.
1. connect it to your computer (through usb) 2. go to "my computer" 3. go to sansa (which should have appeared in "my computer") 4. select the songs you want to delete and click DEL (or drag them into the trash can)
hook it up to your computer with the usb cable that was included with the mp3 player. now just go into the mp3 player in the My Computer folder and then just delete the songs off the Mp3 player.
To free space on it all you have to do is delete a few songs.
To delete songs:
Plug it into your computer, launch Windows Media Player and click the "Sync" tab. A list of songs in the player will appear in folders on the right side of the screen. Expand the folder if you need to, then right-click on each song you want to remove from the player and click "Remove From Device".
Hope this helps you
You can manually delete the music from your computer.
Connect the device. Go to My Computer>Device name Double click on the device to see the contents. You may or may not have a "music" folder, look in there to manually delete the music.
Best of Luck.
