I have a whirlpool duet front loading washer model 9400P...i think it's snagging my laundry. I've run my hand around the inside of the tub and there are two sharp points that must be catching the clothes...can i use some sort of file to smooth them out or does the whole tub need to be replaced?

reach inside drum that turns and try to move it up and down. If there is any movement the spider at the rear of the drum is broken. Will need inner drum and outer rear tub with bearing and seal.

At Lowes you can purchase foam rubber pads 4"X5" pack of two for $3.50. If walking forward and after cecking level and washer pads are tight, place half of one pad under each of the two front feet. Place the sticky side against washer feet. Solved my problem.

if your metal ring (clamp) came off it is most likely due to you shocks or the spring at the top are worn out and need to be replaced. this will happen more often if the cycles are off balance or the washer is over loaded
Mold and bacteria in your door seal is a symptom of problems deeper inside the unit. All washers - not just Whirlpool, have this problem. The area of worst buildup is always on the inside of the plastic outer tub just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this problem area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area". Intermittently pause to soak more extreme cases.
I've heard of this often and don't know of any fixes. I would suggest getting womens hosiery or Halloween spider web cotton and running it around inside to see if it snags. make sure the basket arms inside are not loose. rock them hard while holding the drum. sometime those arms come loose and pinch the clothing.
