I have an Acer Aspire One with Windows XP and when I turn it on a black screen comes up saying "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfull..." Then it gives me a list of options: Safe Mode Safe Mode with Networking Safe Mode with Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration Start Windows Normally When I choose any of these commands, Windows attempts to start, however after about 10 seconds, the same screen reappears. Some people have said to do a 'repair install' with the XP start-up/recovery disk or something... however my computer doesn't have a CD drive so I don't have a disk. What else can I do? Thanks

It's a dead motherboard. I apologize. It's not worth fixing.

If you can't get into it in the safe mode...you will have to re-install the OS.

Did you make back-up disks when you first purchased the lap top and do you make regular backups of your info. If so and you dont need to save anything either first run your security backup and or a complete recovery from your disks. You may have a virus or a hardware issue. Good luck

you need to reinstall your windows. if the installation doesn't continue, replace your hard drive.

It appears that the issue might be with some hardware malfunctions. It may happen due to hardware failure, BIOS mismatch or due to
static charge. Let us try the basic troubleshooting. Turn Off the
Computer, remove all the devices attached to the computer, the power
cable and battrey, now holdon the power button for 15 secs (make sure
adpater and battery are uplugged) it will drain out all the static
charge. Now, restart the computer and keep on tapping F2, you will enter
to BIOS setup utility, press F9 (click "Yes", if you are prompted) and
then press F10 (Click "Yes", if you are prompted), it will restart the
computer. If still it is not booting to normal mode, then we have to
perform a full system recovery & it is a distructive process as you will
loose all the datas on the computer. To do so, Turn Off the computer,
now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key &
keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery
console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction.
NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer

The other way to fix it, you need to disassemble your laptop if you've familiar the unit. Usually the HDD has not been attach check the HDD cable (SATA or IDE) replace it. On other hand if the same things happen and you don't have windows CD, it's time to buy an windows CD installer. Reformat your unit to fix the problem.

Sometimes the function keys get depressed by accident and it takes away your display. Press the FN+F5 and FN+F6 three times each and see if your display comes back on.

Acer 4710, also has many versions.Give me the complete model # and i can help.

Your problem could be windows vista isnot installed properly
i assume in the beginning, your laptop come with windows xp.
if you want to go back to windows xp, you can still use alt+f10, as long as you don't delete the recover partition.
Just boot and press Alt+F10, it'll give you recover screen.
