If pc not sending it to "sleep mode" or "power save" mode, then unit may need help of electronics technician to investigate the "internal switch-mode-power-supply" that may be going into "shutdown" mode after it detects a "fault condition" with itself or onother circuit.

I was able to wake the monitor up. found the solution on another site. the solution was to unplug the dvi cable at the video card end and replug it in with pc and monitor ON. This woke up the monitor. If the problem continues, at least now I know how to reset it. Thank you very much for your prompt reply!

Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22-inch LCD Monitor.

You cannot always tell if a capacitor is bad by looking at it. If it is bulging or leaking or has blown out, that would be obvious but, there are increases in resistance internally called ESR and there are dielectric leakages and that you cannot see. These failures require special equipment to detect.

My Samsung Syncmaster 943BX will not wake up from sleep mode sometimes. Sometimes it comes right up, other times it may be 5,10,20 minutes before the display wakes up.

You probably have caps failing in the power supply.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

SyncMaster 226BW is stuck in standby or at least it shows the signs of being in standby (blinking power button / no display). This happened over night, and a simple restart doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Try it on another PC first, check VGA cable, but more likely to be the monitor for monitor this old.

My SamSung SyncMaster 226BW flashes about 2 times a second for about 30 seconds when first turned on. The background (computer) image is present, but dim. After about 30 seconds it appears normal. It does...

The first place to check will be the caps in the power supply, look for bulging top/bottom seal. See example of failed SAMSUNG monitors due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Samsung syncmaster 226BW no backlight

Look for any bulging capacitors, instead of a flat top they will look "pregnant".

If you see any of those then replace them with capacitors of the same UF rating and the voltage needs to be either the same or higher.

If you dont see any bulging capacitors or burnt parts, then its got be the LCD at that point thats not staying on and the cost to replace the LCD is as much if not more then to just get another monitor.
