I cannot say this with authority, since I own a 1200 model, but from what I've read of that model researching my own it's most likely the power supply. It is repairable if you or someone you know can solder. Here's what I found:

I did pretty much the same to my 1200, replaced two 2200uF caps with 35V versions. Make sure the rated voltage of the new caps is at least 16V! Higher is better. There's also a firmware update for that model, you might want to look into that too. Of course, you can't use it until this is fixed.

OK you could try to use a cleaning DVD that may help.
If that doesn't work, then you have a faulty laser or quadrant detector in your laser assembly and the only way to fix it is to replace it.. it is also possible there are other problems too.
However i would doubt the economics of being able to do so. and any monies to be spent may well be put towards a new unit with a warranty?

Finalizing DVD disk

In cases like this you should use nero to finalize the disk for you or stick it in the computer to get the data off the disc using nero as well.

Hi! Pick a jhonson's bud -- dip it into the lens cleaner solution -- rub gently on the lens both clockwise and anticlockwsie -- leave it to dry -- cover up -- run the machine.. but be careful -- don't touch the lens with ur finger and dont try to rub roughly -- lens may go forever. still if the problem remains , replace the lens. chhoton

Try using Verbatim DVD's, they seem to work the best with Cyberhome recorders.
