The belt in my grass hog has completely worn out the side of the plastic gear wheel it connects to and parts show it coming with a whole motor for $50--I just want to replace the plastic gear wheel...I can buy a whole new hog for $69. There is nothing wrong with my motor--the plastic gear wheel is just worn smooth on one side...part #1 in the GH1000 schematic...

Clearly, the design of this trimmer is weak. One pulley is on a plastic frame that flexs, allowing it to shift so it is not parallel to motor pulley, then the belt slips and wears the plastic pulley smooth on one side. Just poor design and you really don't get many hours out of the GH1000 before this happens. Black and Decker should make good on these.

No solution available for GH-1000. It is interesting to note that Black and Decker now sells a GH-2000 in Lowe's that is, from the outside, identical to the GH1000. Most likely, they know the design of the GH1000 was flawed and have replaced it with a new model. As for me, once burned, twice learned.

I see your predicament. Even at a parts warehouse they are only offering the entire motor assembly as one part. Here are the parts they have available for the GH1000.

Engine is running but the line no longer moves - it like it's out of gear

Sorry I can't solve it yet but same thing happened to me...I took out all the screws holding the case together and could see that the drive belt from the motor to the shaft had worn away or melted...at any rate I could see it was in shreds...Have to see if there is any way to replace that belt

How to put together the CST2000 and install a battery

Which part of the Grass Hog did you take apart? If you mean the spool head, that is easy to reassemble. The actual spool (the round part with the line coming out) goes into the cavity on the bottom of the trimmer, with the line poking out of the hole in the side several inches (not enough to hit the plastic guard). Then the cover (orange with the spring on it) fits on top of the spool so that the spring pushes on the spool and the two tabs on the side snap into the holes in the trimmer.

Unless you took another part off, that should be all you need to do to reassemble the Grass Hog. Turn it right-side up and turn it on to make sure everything works.

My grass hog xp starts but the spool won't spin

This unit is supposedly the same as the GH700 drive system. There is a 5:1 plastic reduction gear inside the housing driven by a steel gear from the motor. It easily strips, melts, or simply breaks. The part is difficult to find. I have not found one yet for my situation.

The motor works but the head does not spin

Either lawn material is binding the head to the base or the reduction gear is broken, stripped, or melted. The motor's steel gear or belt drives the plastic gear which drive the spool. If claning doesn't help, then there is no user repair. The parts are generally not consumer available.

I was trimming and the head stopped turning, motor still going. Is there a repair center around Charlotte,NC???

May have grass or line bound up between moving and non moving parts. If motor is free wheeling, then the plastic driven gear is likely damaged. The part is not consumer available. No one that I have read about has been able to find it.

Plastic shaft drive melted and belt snapped. can I get these parts?

No, they only sell the plastic pulley as part of the motor assembly, not separately. Currently $54.88, more than half the cost of a new trimmer. The belt says "call service center". I tossed mine and bought a cheaper model (NOT B&D!)

Electic trimmer

You're going to take off like 20 screws including the ones that hold the handle and the hood at the base of the blade. You open it like a clamshell. There is a black plastic cover at the very bottom that covers the gear wheels (one tiny wheel that comes from the motor and a large wheel that actually moves both blades back and forth). The black plastic cover is no attached with screws. You just remove it so you can get to the gears. Now you oil and manipulate the large gear wheel until it comes loose and you can see the blades move back and forth. Put the whole thing back together and you are ready to go!

Head of trimmer/edger doesn't spin

i have the same problem, the plastic timing pulley on the motor assembly is probably melted, remove all the screws down the side of the housing, including the one hidden under the label, and you will find that the belt and the pulley are both chewed up.
