Why you want to open the laptop? on the back of the laptop are some screw take aut all the screw and is all ready open, take care to not break any conection under the keyboard and mouse.

the short cable running from the power button to the main board has probably snapped where it passes over the RH hinge. remove the screen surround to gain access to the power on switch area and check. it would seem to be a common fault with the packard bell

If you have the correct type of mouse on Windows XP and the scroll wheel clicks, this is what you have done click it again to return to the normal desktop. I think that you will find that you have the BSOD (blue screen of death) have you recently installed new memory or installed a USB device like a memory stick.

If you hit F8 on startup and then start the windows with last known good config this might start up correctly. If this fails then could you let me know what one of the blue screens says.

Enter Safe mode and then install this reg tweak to disable BSOD and then restart you should be able to read what the screen says.

I believe that this is something that has been developed in Vista to make it easier to see you minimized windows.
