hi there

actually, if you really want your camera to work, you should have a memory card installed as well as the lens.

but if your question is will that work w/o the lens and memory card...of course it will turn on. but it wont function. what i mean is, you cant use it.

While you may not be able to remove the fixed lens on this camera, you can still add other lenses on top of it, like a telephoto or wide angle lens. An example of lens accessories you may purchase for this model can be found here.

Your camera is a point-and-shoot camera styled to look like a DSLR. Your lens does not come off. If you want interchangeable lenses, you need to step up to a DSLR camera.

FUJIFILM FinePix S1600 digital camera. The lens fell out. How do I get it back in?

There is a locking ring that goes in front of the lens. Problem is when you put the lens back in, there was nitrogen in-between the the lens. Its there to keep anything growing in there. I worked on optics in the Army.

The silver side piece that runs down the entire side of the camera on the lens side cracked on the top which makes it "non waterproof" now..any idea where I can get a replacement part?

Same thing happened to mine, except i emerged it underwater and im screwed. Go onto their site.

After the basics (cleaning the lens, replacing the batteries, etc.), try dropping the camera on a carpeted area from about 2-3 feet. It worked for my Fuji A500 and 90% of the responders on the link. Everything on the web said it would cost ~$100 to fix. I was in the process of researching new cameras to buy and had nothing to lose by dropping it on the floor.
The error may be caused by debris in the zoom mechanism preventing it from working. Dropping the camera loosens the debris and voila!

If the "!ZOOM ERROR" message is displayed on the digital camera, switch the camera off and on again 2 or 3 times.
If this does not clear the error, take the camera to your nearest FUJIFILM Service Station for testing and repairs. Problem may caused by lens zooming gears stuck.
