Car speaker installation

My 2003 silverado truck has component speakers in the front. i doubt chevy actually went to the trouble and cost to install crossovers in the stereo or the separately under the dash. The tweeter has a small cpacitor wired to it that I'm gussing theyre using as the high pass filter and just letting the impedence of the woofer itself to act as the high filter to it. will I be OK just wiring the crossover of my new pioneer component speakers only to the woofer's wires or no?

Yes... for sure you can use the woofers wiring, BUT if you are keeping the factory radio you might have reduced volume and or quality due to the inefficency of some newer model higher power needing components... let us know if you are amping or not, and if not.. try and do so..

I purchased a used Jensen UV10 from a friend and installed it in a 97 eclipse spyder. I recently bought a 2003 chevy silverado 1500hd LX, and took out the aftermarket JVC cd player to install my Jensen....

Depending on the model, the Silverado may have an amplifier between the OEM radio and the speakers. If that is the case, you will have to remove it and wire directly to the speakers. Check the wiring schematics for the original truck radio option (one source is Alldatadiy.com).

I have a 04 silverado do i need to install my component speakers in series or can i hook up woofer to factory wing and tweeter seperate from factory

With component speakers it is imperative that both the speakers be hooked up to the supplied crossover. Wiring them in series or parallel will not yeild satisfactory results since the woofer requires lower freequency then the tweeter, which plays the high notes.

Now some cheaper speakers do not use crossovers and sound rather poor. What make and model of speaker are installing? Does you truck already have component speakers in it?

Cheers,

2003 silverado z71

You could get a stereo installation kit for your year, make & model, that comes with a pigtail plug that would plug right into the existing harness plug and prevent you from having to hack up your original wiring harness.

If not....

Car Radio memory Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the fusebox for switched power.
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/White
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

Good luck
