1997 Geo Metro LSI, 1.3L. Engine starts and idles at fast idle. It will not rev up no matter where the throttle is. If you keep it at full throttle it will eventually rev to full throttle and you can increase/decrease rpm's as long as you do not let it go back to fast idle. It has a TBI. any idea's?

Sounds like the timing is retarded. When was the last time the timing belt replaced. The timing belt is wearing out and stretching causing the timing to ****** itself.

SOURCE: Blown coil fuse

IG fuse powers: daytime running lamps(DRL) module; transaxle control module; A/C amplifier; main, fuel pump, and radiator fan relays; alternator; heated oxygen sensor; ignition coil, ignition noise suppressor; sensing and diagnostic module(airbag); audio alarm module; and just about every gage and light in the instrument panel; so there are no usual suspects. The best you can do is try to rule out these components one by one. There is a breaker you can buy that plugs in the fuse hole, that way you can **** around with it without wasting three dozen fuses.

SOURCE: where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter in 99' Chevey Metro

I have a similar prob with this crappy lighter. The lighter & radio run off the same fuse.
The fuse block is located near the hood release lever, under the dashboard towards the left side of the car. It's about 6" x 3" and white plastic. Can't miss it. The cover snaps off and the fuse is blue colored and 15 amp (says 15 on it).You can buy a pack of 5 of these at Walmart for about $3.
Looking at the fuse block, go to the furthest left verticle row of fuses. It should be the last or next to last 15 amper from the bottom. You will need needle nose pliers to pull it out.
Make sure ignition is off and start pulling 15 amp fuses, one at a time from the bottom then moving up and check to see if they are blown. You shouldn't have to pull more than 4 of them to find it.
What I plan to do is splice and aftermarket (Radio Shack) inline fuse into the hot or + side of the lighter wires. This way, hopefully if the lighter shorts, it won't take the clock and radio with it and will be much easier to replace the little "barrel" style fuse. Just make sure it's 15 amps. Hope this helps. ♥♥♥♥

SOURCE: Automatic Transmission 97 metro

Hi:
Specifically, you remove the transmission dipstick and use a narrow funnel to pour transmission fluid in the transmission till it is full. Remember to check your fluid level after the transmission is warmed up, and the car is running, gearshift in Park.

Testimonial: "Thanks!! I thought that might be it as I couldnt find a place to add, like the engine oil has..."

SOURCE: how do i chage the fuel injector for a geo metro

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Removing injectors from fuel rail 84245032.gif
Fig. 2: Make sure injectors rotate freely in cylinder head 84245033.gif

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove intake air hose between throttle body and intercooler.
  3. Remove accelerator cable.
  4. Unclamp PCV and fuel return hoses from deliver pipe.
  5. Unclamp injector wiring harness.
  6. Disconnect injector coupler.
  7. Remove cold start injector pipe from delivery pipe.
  8. Remove vacuum hose from pressure regulator.
  9. Remove fuel feed hose from delivery pipe.
  10. Remove pressure regulator from delivery pipe.
  11. Remove delivery pipe with injectors.
  12. Remove injectors from delivery pipe. To install:
  13. Replace injector O-rings and lubricate with fuel. NOTE: Make sure injectors rotate smoothly. If not, probable cause is incorrect installation of O-ring.
  14. Check if insulator is scored or damaged. If it is, replace with new one.
  15. Connect delivery pipe with injectors.
  16. Install pressure regulator to delivery pipe using a new O-ring.
  17. Install fuel feed hose to delivery pipe.
  18. Install vacuum and fuel return hoses to pressure regulator and clamp securely.
  19. Install cold start injector pipe to delivery pipe using new gaskets.
  20. Install injector coupler. Clamp injector wiring harness.
  21. Install PCV hose to cylinder head.
  22. Install throttle position sensor coupler.
  23. Install accelerator cable and adjust free-play.
  24. Install intake air hose to throttle body and intercooler.
  25. Connect the negative battery cable.
  26. Start engine and check for leaks.

How do I find an idle stop screw for a 1993 geo metro?

If it has a stop screw, look on the throttle body assembly where the throttle control cable hooks on- the gas pedal cable running from the lower firewall to the engine. You can rotate the throttle control by hand, but where it is in the at rest position- as at idle-there would be a stop screw on the throttle body, which can keep the throttle control from closing further.

Idles to fast

old post.
too fast hot or cold.,
this car has a ECU, brain,
the brain controls RPM full time hot,
not you unless you step on the throttle.
only IT does. the ECU.
if the idle is wrong when cold engine, that is the IAC failing.
or is normal, I dont know you never stated
hot
cold
or and RPM

Motor runs at 4000 rmp when started

1995 Geo Metro. COLD start or HOT started or BOTH?
Does it ever idle down to 800 HOT? (engine temp)>?

Aka:
Geo Metro (later re-branded the Chevrolet Metro), Pontiac Firefly, and Suzuki Swift
which engine, what country???
I will post for USA only !!!!
Auto or stick tranny???
the USA 1995 was the last car to use TBI injection (throttle body)
the LSI option, then had a 4 cylinder. in 1.3Liters.
and works totally differ. than any 1.0L
answsering for 1.0L

Have you inserted the Diagnostic jumper wire and looked at the
FLASH codes yet?
choke? on 95? what country is this, ours are not carbs. in 1995.
so post country. ours are all EFI in USA.
3 cylinder? 1 liter? or which engine/?
on any USA Metro, 1L , when first started, it has 2 valves. to control IDLE, (cold , is iAC) hot is ISC, The cold start valve opens farther the colder it is (how cold was it). but usually is limited to about 2000 rpm
max.
this engine, TBI, uses a MAP to control fuel mixtures, and
any air leaks (aka; vacuum leaks) what so ever, will cause too fast idle.
so on MAP cars, you get to find out what is leaking AIR.
1995 has the new better , idle control speed motor, (ISC)
this can be stuck open.
that new TPS, did you do the calibration correctly?
it must set right. or idle will never be controlled.
finding the cause, takes hard work, and hands on testing
A/C fast idle broken
A/T transmission fast idle, device, broken.
Air leaks (add huge list of possibles and cracked hoses here)
Throttle stuck
ISC or IAC bad.
very hands on to find this, done many.
TPS on indexed corrrectly or not calibrated.

Yes, because the specs are different... most manufatures change the specs on vehicles every four years, so 90-94 is most likely all the same, but then you will have 95-99 an so on an so on.. Good Luck

When i start my 1997 Geo Metro, it often sputters

Try this
Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
