Question about Samsung HLN5065W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Was watching TV all of a sudden I heard a Whistle noise… then I heard a loud POP… finally the screen went Black. I could not turn the TV set off until unplugged from the wall. Plugged back on and no video but sound was OK initially. The sound went away (intermittent)?
What could have happened?

I just got the lamp from parts.com and should be able to install this weekend. As soon as I get it done I'll let you know how the suggestion worked.
Thanks,

Well, after removing the old lamp and replacing for the new one, the tv did not work. I decided to take the set apart and checked all electronics/boards for any visual signs of burned or defective components and to my relief, none were damaged. I then moved to the light generation section and interestingly enough, I noticed some sparkles on the inside of the glass portion of the beam assembly. Lo and behold the Whistle... PoP and Out goes all.. turned out to be the COLOR WHEEL that had exploded into tiny bits/pieces. So after purchasing the Lamp and not being the culprit, I needed to spend the money to purchase the Color Wheel. I hope to get it this week and should make the trip back to my in-law and see if this takes care of the problem, which am almost certain it will.
Needless to say, thanks to Slinteriors for leading me in the right direction and for the patience to get my feedback.
