Machine dead does not display time. Power is there.
Send an email to: [email protected] and write "Panasonic DMR-ES30V repair brief" in the Subject field. Tell Mike your problem and he will send you his repair guide.
Basically you need to replace two capacitors (C1204 and C1209) in the unit with higher rated 35V/50V alternatives.
Was the display dim for a while, then died???
If so the likly problem is the power supply section.
It usualy comes down to one or a number of of capasitors in the power supply if the the machine is going on a few years old, some 2 or 3 years old!!
The power board in most STB (set top boxes) run very hot and these components don't last many years. The more expensive models have built in cooling fans the redice the heat.
So don't stack, cover, put in cupboards where the heat can't disapate or in direct sun light.
Some of these run so hot in the summer, they are to hot for a child to put there had on and leave it there!!!!
The cheapest fix is to take the power board section down to the nearest electronics parts and identify the possable spec of the offending caps components, not all ways the big ones and they might set you back $5 bucks!!
If you are handy with a soldering iorn and solder- wick with the most "MINIMUM of HEAT" remove most of the caps and get them tested on a anologe multi meter that is easier than a Digital meter for the beginer in Ohms setting.
Most will react by shorting the 2 un-solderd ends to gether then tuching the meter leads to the ends then you will see the meter reading drop at a stedy rate or very quickly down to nothing.
If in dout replace, you could ask the guy in the shop to check as some read differantly then others.
The other thing the Ohms or Up on the cap needs to be the same but the voltage needs to be the same or higher!!!

Thanking you.
The unit fails to operate properly. Press [POWER] on the main unit to switch the unit to
standby. Now press [POWER] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.

Same problem - power cord is ok but no clock display, won't turn on. Was plugged into a surge protector :-(
I have the same problem, I think it is one of the components on the power pcb too, not sure which one though.
