Need to determine which part to order for a Magic Chef MCWC50DBT that runs too cold. Apparently the compressor is not being shut off by the temperature control system. I've checked the thermocouple, and it has a DCR of 2500 ohms at about 78 degrees F, and increases its resistance when cooled. The unit throws a "HHF" error code. Do I need a temp control PCB or a Temp control module?

There is a fan which brings cold air from the freezer side to the refrig and sounds like it is not running.

Is compressor running continuously or is it clicking on and off every couple minutes? Is there any frost buildup on inside back wall of freezer?

You may have a Freon leak at the compressor. Running this unit at low pressure will only make it leak that much more. Have a technician check it and refill is there is a fill port available.

Mr. Lindquist: We are experiencing essentially the same problem. Have tried replacing the temperature control board without change. Would be interested to know if you get a solution.

Check the relay on the compressor. Here is the part.

Check condensor not clogged up, fan working etc. If all ok, try new capacitor and relay. If all else fails, replace freezer (compressor replacement is costly)

Have the same issue with the mcwc50dbt.

The relay seems fine, no oxidation on ceramic insert.

I used to tap the back of control panel and sometimes the compressor would start up, cool the unit, but would not come back on again by its own.

I removed the control board this weekend and it looks fine (ie, no burn marks or loose soldered connections on board as seen in other posts), however if I wiggle the wires leading from the inside top of the fridge cabinet to the control board, the compressor will come on, but again will not come on again after the temp is reached. So how do I know if the issue is with the control board and needs to be replaced, or if the issue is something else?

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

You need to replace the Ptc unit attached to the compressor. Go to REPAIR CLINIC.COM and order the following part. 1206838 Ptc relay. They also will show you were it is located and how to replace it. Compressor tanks very rarely go bad. It is an $11.00 dollar part
