If it is not doing either or and making a humming noise then it could possibly have a restriction in the drain line. while your washer will draining, in addation to the noise during the agitate cycle is it making a similar noise during the drain/spin cycle?
if that is the case the motor coupler is broken

Hello, could be a possible bad pump. I would lean the washer back so you can see the belt. take the belt off and spin all of the pulleys. the pump pulley has a s leave that sometimes makes a grinding noise.

replace the motor coupler...you have to remove the case and then the water pump, then the motor....the coupler in behind the motor

check the lid switch operation,not sure what the noise could be maybe somthing stuck in the pump? hope ths helps unless the contacts in the timer are faulty i have opened up a few timers and fixed the contacts short term.
