I have LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator for 5 years. I noticed that yesterday that a funny motor sound came from the back of the refrigerator. When I open the refrigerator or freezer door, the sound would stop, but whenever I open either door, the sound would resume. I even vacuumed the bottom of the refrigerator in case the dust is causing the problem, but the same sound persists. What is wrong with my refrigerator? What can I do to fix it? Thanks for any help or information!

Hi,
The problem could be a bad bearing in the condenser or evaporator fans...more likely though is that the evaporator fan is hitting an ice build up on the coils...this can be caused by a bad defrost timer...
more closely check on the sound... you will find it....

a few drops of oil on the fan shafts just ahead of the motor will not hurt either...

Check out these tips...they can help you figure out whats going wrong with yourrefrigerator and why it is not cooling

Motor still running after gasket replacement

it will take at least 24 hours for the freezer to settle down to the correct temp -18c.the water is the frozen condensate that builds up inside the outer door over a period of time and should be allowed to drain away when you do a full 48hour defrost once a year....frost free means frost free where there is an air flow.....

The refrigerator make noise. It seem to be from the motor. It is only 1 year old.

I think that sound come of the fan in the freezer. This sound is intermittant. It's possible that problem is cause by a defect bearing?

Loud compressor noise from lg frig...

The sound you hear is the Freezer Fan, this problem is hard to diagnose, because the fan spins but not fast enough to circulate chilled air thru the freezer and refrigerator. The minimum labor and material cost for the repair/replacement is around $300.00. But if you chose to make the repair yourself the motor alone costs around [email protected]. But the repair is very labor because the electrical connection for this fan is at the rear of the unit
