Intermittantly the curser freezes then erratically moves around the screen by itself. I am unable to move or 'control' the curser so find it difficult to shut down to do a re-start. I usually have to hold the power button down to switch my laptop off. I use the touchpad not a mouse. This is a frustrating problem - my laptop works fine other than this intermittant problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure that you are not placing the hand on the touchpad while typing.... This might be due to the drivers issue with the touchpad.. Try to unistall the drivers of touchpad from the device manager.. Then install a fresh copy from the dell website(www.support.acer.com).. If the issue is yet to be fixed please contact Acer to replace the touchpad....

While typing on Acer Aspire the typing jumps around constantly...why?

Most of the time disabling the tapping for the touchpad solves the problem. Go to settings and disable the tapping for the touchpad, not the touchpad itself, just the tapping.

Sounds to be a hardware problem. especially if it would move by itself at times, now not at all.

Windows is detecting it correctly, right?

If so, then i would say time for a new one.

Upper left side scroll buttons take the curser to the top or bottem of list , no one line at a time. Do you think the problem is the button or board or software?

Use your Thumb stick to move the cursor around the screen, from one icon to another. The left side buttons are for scrolling from screen to screen only.

Manual states: Move up/down, right/left to move through lists, highlight fields, on-screen buttons, icons, enter data or move the map panning.

If this solves your problem, please come back and rate our solution, thank you.

Cursor on my keypad jumps around

If your cursor moves erratically on the screen (for example, if it jumps around the screen, moves at varying speeds, or selects items on its own), perform the following steps:

1. Clean the surface of the touchpad with a dry, soft cloth to remove grease, sweat, moisture, or other liquids.

2. Adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad:.

a. Click the Start button and click Control Panel.

b. Click Printers and Other Hardware.

c. Click Mouse.

d. When the Mouse Properties window appears, click the Pointer Options tab.

e. Under Select a pointer speed:, click to move the slider bar closer to Slow.

f. Click OK.

g. Check to see if the touch pad still behaves erratically.

3. If the touchpad still caused the cursor to behave erratically, attach an external mouse to your computer and restart your computer. Use the external mouse to see if your cursor still moves erratically.

4. After connecting an external mouse, uninstall the touchpad driver from the Device manager listed under the "mice and other pointing devices" category and restart the Computer.

5. Download the Touchpad driver compatible to the Operating System installed on the Computer from the manufacturer's site and install it after restarting the Computer.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

Typing moves?

It could be that your hands are brushing against your trackpad.

Logitech Marble Mouse became erratic then stopped

Nope have to throw it away and buy another. I've had this same problem every 3-4 months: works fine then it disappears from device manager then it works again at random. I end up replacing it after my curser stops moving for minutes at a time. After a few months the replacement does the same thing. My 5th replacement will be Kensington, Logitech apparently sucks
