I had a similar problem with mine, but this may not apply to you. I used my kix on my new macbook, and it worked fine. But when I tried to use it on my family's xp computer afterwards it said that it was writing and media player wouldn't pick it up but the computer itself did. My guess is the problem comes from switching systems between windows and apple. I also never bothered with disconnecting it "properly", which I recommend since it may have also caused the problem. But tell me if this helps.

try using another usb port my macbook sometimes doesn't recognize my USB ports.

I have had this problem recently myself and would like you to know that it is possible to fix. The white screen error or otherwise known as "white screen of death" is caused by the lcd color screen on the ipod itself. That is why its functions still work but the screen does not. Once you replace the color screen it will be as good as new.

Just format it. It'll delete all you've got on the mp3, but it'll work.

The rechardeable battery in the Insignia Kix MP3 player has a finite lifespan. The amount of operating time you can expect in between charges will naturally decrease until the battery gets to a point where it is no longer able to power the unit.
