Power cord when connected to laptop does not power up. There is no teltale sign of damage to power cord. There is a slight wiggle of the male prong when inserted in the 12v circle socket. Could it be the socket? Who can repair?

The DC jack, where you plug the power adapter cable, might be loose or defective, & needs to be either re-soldered or replaced.
In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard taken out. Also, the motherboard needs to be checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage
If the attachment to the machine is 2 prongs (male) and the cord has two small holes for the prongs (female) you can try gently squeezing the plug with the female end to make the contacts a bit tighter. It sounds like the connection is not making contact properly

How to wire a plug

In USA, Either the male or female plug connector would be wired the same. Black is hot wire and would connect to the BRASS colored round head screw ( Smallest flat prong or slot ). White is the neutral wire and would connect to the SILVER colored round head screw ( Largest flat prong or slot ). Green is the ground wire and would connect to the GREEN screw ( ONLY HEX shaped screw ). 1) FOR YOUR LIFE SAFETY, ALWAYS USE 3-WIIRE PLUGS WHEN REPAIRING 3-WIRE EXTENSION CORDS! 2) Check the male plug connector. It should have two flat and one rounded prong. The rounded prong is the ground wire connection. If the ground prong is missing, replace the plug. 3) Inspect the outer cover for damage. 4) Do not use cords with damaged outer covers. Taping over the damage is not an adequate repair, for safety, replace the cord.

The problem may be simpler than you think, Patrick. The robot's power cord must be plugged into the power supply port in a particular way. The male prongs on the robot's power cord are numbered, 1 through 4. Each of these male prongs must be plugged into the power supply port's corresponding number (e.g., 1 must be plugged into 1, 2 into 2, etc.). Do anything else and you get a motionless robot. I hope this helps.

Power cord will not light up where it is inserted into the laptop unless you hold it steady. It will not charge unless it is held in a certain position. Is the male part on the cord bad or is it the female...

You'll need to get another power cord that is identical in power and polarity and plug. One can buy a generic power supply from Walmart that will power most laptops or Radio Shack (Walmart is probably cheaper).

Once the new power supply is obtained, try it, and if the same thing happens, then the problem is in the female plug connection to the motherboard of the Compaq Presario C762NR Notebook.

The Notebook will have to be disassembled and the female plug connection to the motherboard will have to be replaced.

If the male plug end shows any fraying or excessive bending signs, then I would definitely replace the cord.

It is difficult to determine which is bad, the male or female part without changing the easiest part... the power supply.

Also, you could go to your local Compaq dealer and ask to plug in one of their power supplies to your computer and tell them the problem that you are having, determining which is bad, the male or female part of your power supply.

Good luck on this repair.

Power Head keeps cutting in and out while vacuuming???Canister motor keeps running but the power head starts and stops like there is a short or some loss of connection somewhere. Any ideas?

My kenmore progressive vacuum had the same problem. The electrical terminal at the bottom of the wand was corroded. I used a flat head screw driver to scrape the female portion of the connector as best as I could. I then took off the plastic cover on the vacuum head that had the male portion of the connection. I used sand paper to clean the two connection prongs. I also spread them apart slightly for better connection (more interference) when the connection is made. I reassembled, and our vacuum is working fine now. I hope that helps.

If you move the cord @ the outlet and the dryer shuts off replace outlet if the prongs on the cord are not damaged.

If you wiggle at the dryer side and it shuts off un plug the dryer remove acess cover and inspect end of cord. Ck. and make sure terminal nuts are tight. and not burnt due to a loose connection.

Won't charge

The plug in terminal that is soldered to a board inside the laptop has a loose solder connection. This procedure require opening the laptop and some soldering iron, and some solder. If you are not confident in doing this don't try it cuz you can mess up your laptop forever.

One of the 3 Male Jack Prongs is broken off.

This will likely require some soldering, if you are referring to the jack on the dc converter (black box) you should exercise care when opening these there coiuld be hazardous electricity in it even if unplugged. (if it can be opened, many are permanantly glued shut) you can order replacements on ebay relatively cheap, usually $15-30.

It sounds to me like the power cord has a short. To test your power cord you need a multimeter. Test continuity threw the power cord, from the male plug prongs, to the wiring inside the vacuum. You should get continuity from one prong on the male plug to only one wire on the other end of the power cord. If you test one prong but get a readying on 2 wires, then it is crossed. If you dont get any continuity on one or more of the wires, you have a short. A common place for a short in the cord is the male plug, you can find a replacement male plug at a hardware store and cut off the old one. When wiring the male plug, black wire goes to the gold post, white wire goes to silver, and green wire goes to the green post.

If your carbon brushes on the motor are warn, then that could cause the motor to stop, but other parts of the vacuum should still work so I dont think it is that.

Hope this helps.
