You are transmitting with the correct tone on the correct frequency. Either the tone, frequency or both are incorrect on receive. Try pressing the squelch button while they are transmitting. If you can hear them, your tone is incorrect. Either way, you likely need to take it to a two way radio dealer who can program that radio. Call first, it is an older radio, not every shop can program it.

Bad transmission

Troubleshooting ideas:
1) Try the radio without the remote speaker mic (RSM) attached. Do you still have the same issue?
2) Check the RSM's mic area for dirt/debris or something covering the hole. It is usually in the lower corner of the grill area of the mic.
3) Try someone else's RSM on your radio and see if the problem is still there.
4) Check your battery. An old or defective battery will cause transmit issues. Try a known-good battery from another radio to see.
5) If all of the above are addressed and you still have an issue, you may be experiencing low transmit power, and your radio would need to be serviced.

Uhf or Vhf that is the question

UHF. To receive calls in your car, the radio would need to be programmed to a frequency matching other radio you are wanting to receive transmissions from.

DTMF Keys

Here is a link to a very good explanation: http://www.genave.com/dtmf.htm

Typically in radio we see DTMF used two ways:

1) To turn a device on and off. Such as irrigation systems on a golf course. The golf course groundskeeper can simply use the DTMF keypad on his radio to type in the appropriate code to turn the sprinklers on or off.

2) When linked with the appropriate repeater and equipment, it can be linked to a land line telephone system, and then make and receive calls.

Harmon kardon stereo reciever avr130

Say PLEASE!!!! LOL just pullin your leg. I have found most reciver remotes are a B&*&h to work with as well as program for other componets. Now for yor problem at hand. It could be a speaker partially shorted and on a high current such as a loud input to the speaker its loading down the reciver. Also could be a fault with the idle current or zero offset voltage, or an Idle bias alighnment, or fault in the recivers amp section. The only way to test this amp would be have a service tech hook up the amp. to some load resistors, hook it up to a scope, and insert an 400 cycle to 1000 cycle tone at .775 Millivolt and see when the outputs clip if at all, and this will tell an experienced tech where to look for the problem you describe. You see my freind there are no user serviceable parts inside this reciver for you to trouble shoot unless you know how to use specialized equipment and troubleshoot solid state electronics. Good Luck
