I have a problem with a Gateway MT6705 that will not power on. Voltage on adapter is good, voltage can be read from mother board but there is no sign of life. Am I missing something basic? I have done that before.

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.

6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced

I replaced the ac adapter on the motherboard of the Gateway NV5207u and now when I try to power it on, won't power on. battery light red

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.

My daughter has a Gateway MT6705 her dad gave her that the battery died on and the universal charger he had would not charge it. I bought a brand new SQU-412 battery and charger for it and it turned on...

There is likely a little electronics within the computer itself that serves to control the voltage supplied by the external charger. This is often a a small, slim board and is not an uncommon failure.
Any competent tech should, in a few minutes, be able to determine if this board has failed. I would estimate the cost of replacing the board should be under $100 US unless you have high labor costs in your area.

Can laptop charger pin be fixed

I had the same issue with a Gateway we use for streaming video to our TV. I actually sent it back to gateway as it was still under their 3 year warrenty buy some 2 or 3 weeks.

While some of their parts fail on a regualr basis (DVD drives) I have to say their service is right up there in my book. You can get to a tech pretty much on the first ring to support. They pay shipping of a carton for you to send in the laptop.

While a really good technical person could replace the part on the laptop, letting Gateway deal with it for you is the best solution. That port is soddered to the mother board and that has to be a perfect joint since it is higher voltage than in other parts of the motherboard.

Keep me posted.

I have a MT6705 laptop that works with new battery but wont charge or operate with power cord.

Hello,

Might be the power cord is faulty. If you have checked this with any other computer then inverter board on your main board is faulty or the dc in cable (the cable connecting power jack to mother board).

Thanks

Gateway mt6705 doesn't charge

Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

MX6441 will not power up. have voltage going to

this suggests that 1. the power supply is no longer putting out the correct voltage, but still sorta working(probably not the case) or that you have a bad connection on the socket for the power adaptor, #3. the mother board has decided it no longer wants to work(most likely), it has to be replaced. this model has had alot of mother board problems in the past.

I'm trying to fix a gateway MFATXNIN NMZ 500SE

Check the adapter with a multi-meter to see if there is voltage at the plug that connects into the laptop. The oltage reading should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
Try to borrow an adapter (same as yours) and connect it to your laptop. Also try removing the battery and power up the laptop without the battery but with the adapter connected (could be a battery problem).
