The 30 error says the carriage is not moving freely. Look on the extreme right and left with a light and see if there's a paper wad on either side. If you had a paper jam you could have pulled the encoder strip out of the sensor slot on the carriage and may need a shop to repair, but check for paper first.

You can download the driver software from this link. Instructions from Brother are also provided at this site.

You should be able to do this in the printer properties when you go to print.

Now the printer bar is all black lines neatly lined up and I can't even shut it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At Officemax or other electronic stores, they sell a product for about $50.00-$100.00 that sets up your printer to print wireless. I bought mine from office max for 79.99. It works great when im not in my office.

Please tell us what machine do you really have:
Is it a mfc 420cn or a mfc 5460cn?

Did you have a paperjam before getting the error?
This might be due to the paperjam.

Ill try to give you some more help but need more info...
